  2. Life And Death • Charlemagne was born in 742 A.D. • Charlemagne died in 811 A.D.

  3. Birth Place • Born in an unknown town.

  4. Parents • Charlemagne’s parents were Pepin the Short and Berta.

  5. Siblings • Charlemagne had only one brother, Carloman, who was king like Charles.

  6. Crowned King • On Sunday October 8th, 768 A.D. he was crowned king along with his brother Carloman. They split the Frankish Kingdom that used to be their father’s.

  7. First Conflict • 769 A.D. Charlemagne won his first conflict alone. It was against the Aquitanians, one of his father’s rivals.

  8. Ruler of All Franks • 771 A.D. Charles’ brother Carloman died, so Charles became the ruler of all the Franks.

  9. Conqueror • 774 A.D. Charles conquered Lombardy his father’s other rival and the Pope’s major threat. He now controlled most of inland Europe.

  10. New Capital • 794 A.D. Aachen became the Frank’s capital. It is located in present day Germany. It was also the first German City to fall in World War II.

  11. Roman Empire • 800 A.D. Charles became the ruler of the Holy Roman Empire. He now controlled from The Spanish border to Czechoslovakia.

  12. Wives • Charles’ last of 5 wives died. This was a very devastating loss to him. He had one son that was the heir to the throne.

  13. Death • 811 A.D. Charles died due to age. His son Louis took the throne. Charlemagne’s legacy lived on.

  14. Charlemagne’s Traits • He was ruthless, deadly, courageous, tactical, smart, powerful, helpful, religious, and brave.
