  8. Full-Length Tests: First and Last on the Agenda You begin the course by completing the Diagnostic and Science Assessment Exam. Then at the end of Unit 2, the midpoint of the class, you will take your first Full Length-essentially a second diagnostic exam. Only at the end of Unit 3, will you be exposed to Kaplan’s arsenal of Full Length tests. These include 11 Kaplan Full Lengths AND All available AAMC Practice Tests NOTE: Student Experiences have shown that the level of difficulty of the Kaplan tests is greater than that of the AAMC practice tests, albeit with a more generous curve. However, students have also reported that the actual MCAT to be closer in difficulty level to the Kaplan tests than to the AAMC tests.

  9. Subject Tests: Non-MCAT Style Content Practice Purpose: These Kaplan tests contain non-MCAT style multiple choice questions that test your basic science knowledge. How to Use: Help reinforce your science foundation BEFORE you integrate it with the critical thinking skills necessary for success on MCAT-style passages. When to Use: Throughout Units 1-3 as needed. For example, if you are weak in a particular field (Physics, etc.), consider taking these tests BEFORE attempting the more challenging Topical Tests. Note: These tests are not arranged by topic, so to find the relevant problems use the Directed Practice prompts at the bottom of your Lesson Book pages.

  10. Topical Tests: MCAT Style Content Specific Practice Purpose: Short, focused tests with passages and questions in the MCAT format covering those science topics outlined in the AAMC MCAT Interpretive Manual. How to Use: These tests are timed and named for the particular topic they test. They are some of the most challenging material that Kaplan produces. Intended to broaden the scope of what the student expects from passages/questions, they are not strictly progress measuring tools, but rather learning tools. When you take these tests, don’t forget to review the explanations! When to Use: Use these tests throughout Unit 1-3 to solidify application of scientific content and refer back to their explanations if necessary at any point.

  11. Section Tests: Individual MCAT Section Practice Purpose: These individual MCAT Section tests are designed to challenge your MCAT knowledge while building your test-taking endurance. How to Use: Use these tests to simulate actual sections of the MCAT without having to take full-length exams. When to Use: Use these tests Unit 3 and beyond to hone your Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, or Verbal Reasoning skills under timed conditions. Like the full-lengths, these tests should be used to integrate ALL of the Kaplan strategies you learned in the course, including pacing.

  12. Smart Reports: Accessing Your Personalized Study Plan Once you have finished taking the Full Lengths and Section Tests, you can customize your study plan using Smart Reports. This adaptive learning technology aggregates your results to clarify your strengths and weaknesses. To access this information, simply click on the “Reporting Suite” tab along the top.

How can you access the MOST detailed information from Smart Reports? Just click!

  14. Smart Reports: Continued Once you click on the Categories View of any test, you will first see the specific breakdown of the test sections. Then with another click of each bar, the sections will be broken down into its specific subject components. 15. Smart Reports: Continued The Chart icon will take you to a detailed list of correct and incorrect answers The Graph icon will take you to the graph summary Finally, to break down each subject to its component topics, click once more on the subject bars. If there is room for you to improve in a specific subject (i.e. Organic Chemistry) return to the home page and try a Subject Test in that science.

  16. Smart Reports: Continued At this level of analysis, you can see how you performed on specific topics within the broader subject. With this information, you could target your practice on that particular field using the Topical Tests or our Qbank Speaking of Qbank….

  17. Qbank: Create your own test in your own time Kaplan’s Question Bank or Qbank has a pool of ADDITIONAL questions (i.e. not those in Smart Reports) to give student the flexibility to make a practice quiz that is best suited to his/her needs. To make your OWN practice quiz, simply click on the Qbank icon in ‘My Toolbox’ and then click on ‘Create Quiz.’

  18. Qbank: Do you want your Quiz…? Timed or Untimed? Discretes only, Passage-Based, or both? To include broad sections, or specific subjects and topics? To have 10 Questions or 60?
