  3. Standards and Metrology Dept. in figures : • Established in 2003. • No. of staff : 23 specialists. • No. of standards 1776. • No. of standards issued in the field of oil and gas is 87. • Number of standards adopted from International standards is 253 ( ISO, IEC, OIMEL).

  4. How is Qatar Standards Produced ? Plan Draft Comments Approval Study of Comments WTO Notification

Harmonization of Standards in Qatar1 - International-We participate in the following International technical committees in cooperation with QP.-Qatar complies with the WTO agreement on TBT2 - Regional :GSO established TC’s that cover most fields, the main objective is to adopt International Standards, and review GSO Standards with respect to International Standards.

  6. Types of Adoptions - ISO / IEC Guid 21 • Endorsement notice. • Cover sheet method. • Republication method. • Translation into local language.

  7. Types of Qatar Standards : • Basic Standards. • Terminology Standards. • Testing Standards. • Process Standards. • Interface standards.

  8. Challenges Facing the Harmonizationof International Standards : 1- Culture and Languages. 2- Law attendance of Industrial expertise of developing countries in International Technical Committees (ISO/TC). 3- There are no National Committees equivalent to ISO/TC’s to study the DIS according to our Culture. 4- Law of Commodities International Standard.

  9. Conclusions We can adopt any International or Foreign National Standard. If it is appropriate for its needs and does not create barriers to trade.
