D E F I N I T I O N ADE Definition of Giftedness “Gifted and talented children and youth are those of high potential or ability whose learning characteristics and educational needs require qualitatively differentiated educational experiences and/or services. Possession of these talents and gifts, or the potential for their development, will be evidenced through an interaction of above average intellectual ability, task commitment and/or motivation, and creative ability.” (Arkansas Reg., Gifted and Talented: Rules and Regulations: Program Approval Standards.)

  3. M O D E L S Renzulli’s Three Ring Model states that gifted learners have above average ability, task commitment, and/or creativity. Above Average Ability Task Commitment Creativity

  4. M O D E L S Gagne’s DMGT Model states that gifted learners can have any of the following gifts or talents: Innate Gifts Talents Academics Arts Business Leisure/Games Social Action Sports Technology Intellectual Creative Socioaffective (Perceptive) Sensorimotor (auditory/ coordination)

M O D E L S Tannenbaum’s Model states that gifted learners exhibit an advanced level of learning and creativity with five factors that contribute to a student’s giftedness: Superior General Intellect Supportive Nonintellective Traits Strong Special Aptitudes Challenging and Supportive Environment Chance

  6. M O D E L S Taylor’s Multiple Talent Totem Poles states that gifted learners have the following abilities: Academic Productive Thinking Communicating Forecasting Decision Making Planning Implementing Human Relations Discerning Opportunities
