  2. Ice Breaker • You will be in pairs • One partner will ask the other questions to get to know them. • Then the next partner will do the same • When completed, you will introduce your partner to the class.

  3. Class Rules and Expectations • What rules would you like to see in the class?

  4. Fire Drill Procedures • If an alarm, you will exit the classroom in an orderly manner • You will turn down the hallway left and exit the door on the right • We will wait either away from the school or at the Syncrude Wellness centre if stormy or during the winter months.

  5. Class Safety • Do not touch anything in the cupboards and side tables unless you are directed to do so • The fume hood is off limits for students unless directed otherwise • When doing experiments, please keep all safety apparel on at all times.

  10. 1.1 Water: An Essential Abiotic Factor • There are both Abiotic and Biotic Factors in the environment and ecosystems. • Abiotic factors are physical, non living parts of the environment • Biotic factors are living organisms in the environment • Ecosystems are all the organisms in an area as well as the abiotic factors which they interact.

  12. Why Is Water is the Essential Abiotic Factor? • It is 70 %- 95% of all cells • Solvent of life as many ionic components are dissolved in water and are transported between living cells in fluids • Usually connection between all abiotic factors and water
