  1. It's time to take a magical journey through the greatest war in history...

  2. But there’s no such thing as magic!?!

  3. and the War To End All Wars

  4. WWI is so fascinating. I wonder if I have time to fly around and see everyone’s unique stories.

  5. Don’t be a fool, Potter. Every person representing every language within every country is going to have a story regarding this war. Even if you lived one hundred more years, you could never give them all the attention they deserve.

  6. But maybe, we can still take a good look at some of the big stories to better understand this war and it’s details.

  7. Sound’s like a plan. Let’s go see what the Italians are doing. I mean, I thought they were supposed to be a part of the Triple Alliance with Germany and Austria. Maybe Hermione can help us understand more…

  8. Italy in the Great War

  9. Well, as Harry said, Italy was a part of the Triple Alliance before the war began. But once the fighting actually broke out, the Italians had a change of heart…

  10. In 1915, Italy signed the secret Treaty of London. In this treaty Britain offered Italy large sections of territory in the Adriatic Sea region – Tyrol, Dalmatia and Istria in exchange for their support.

  11. The Nationalistic Italians had been eager for war, but they sat back at first to see which side was likely to win and, thus, be the best to ally with. "Do you want to be spectators in this great drama? Or do you want to be its fighters?" Benito Mussolini

  12. Let’s show the Allied Powers that we will do our part in this war. I say we attack Austria-Hungary. We should climb through the Alps. They’ll never see it coming. When we cross the Alps then we can launch a frontal attack into the heart of the Austrian Empire. Luigi Cardorna: Italian Field Marshal and Supreme Commander of Italian forces

  13. This was the Generalissimo‘s plan...

  14. That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. His men are already outclassed by the Austrian and German soldiers, and now they will be completely worn out. And open combat in WWI is suicide… that’s why everyone has been digging trenches. All of the Italians are going to die!

  15. The Italians lose 300,000 men before finally establishing a front line

  16. This is getting complicated. Man, even if the Italians win in the end, they will never get their morale back after this. But as long as the Allied Powers win, they are still on the winning side of the war. Let’s write it down!

  17. Italy in the Great War • Before the start of WWI, Italy was part of the Triple Alliance (Austria and Germany) • The Treaty of London set up an agreement which gave Italy territory in the Balkans in exchange for aiding the Allies • Early Italian campaigns were marked by death and retreat due to open warfare • By the wars end, the Italians will suffer more than 600,000 deaths, but will have also secured their position amongst the allied nations

  18. Yikes! I hope Hagrid is having a better time with his check up on Russia…

  19. Russia in the Great War

  20. I’m sorry, Harry, but Russia is actually doing much worse than Italy. If you remember, the Russians have been just throwing their boys toward the enemy fire to tie up the Germans. From what I can see, it’s been starting to take a toll on Russian morale.

  21. It doesn’t take long for people to become upset at the thought of dying for no reason without much hope of victory. After the initial crushing defeats, the leader of Russia goes to the frontline himself to lead his boys in person. Czar Nicholas II

  22. Czarina Alexandra The Czar leaves his wife in control of the country…

  23. Czarina Alexandra Grigori Rasputin She adores a creepy, crazy monk named Rasputin…

  24. And in no time, Rasputin is running the country

  25. So let’s put together everything we should all know so far. • Russia currently has a crazy monk for an autocratic dictator. • Russia is HUGE. It takes forever to travel across the country. • Russia has not fully industrialized yet, and is technologically behind. • Russia has no supply line to its allies due to attacks from German U-boats. • Russia is currently under threat of a communist revolution.

  26. Hagrid, you fool. No one has any idea what a communist revolution is.

  27. Well, the short answer is that the peasants who still have nothing are in favor of a government owned by the people. They would like to see wealth recollected from the rich and distributed equally to the poor as promoted by Karl Marx in the Communist Manifesto. And the common Russians have been made aware of how beautiful a utopian world like this could be due to the constant work of a man named V.I. Lenin.

  28. And if I have my way, I’ll pull our country out of this ridiculous war and concentrate on fixing life in Russia for all of our citizens. V. I. Lenin

  29. Relax guys. Mr. Keiser will definitely spend a whole unit explaining the Russian Revolution in detail later. All that matters right now is that the Russians have a revolution coming fast. Let’s focus on how it affects WWI. This feels like we’re cramming a whole revolution into a few slides. I mean, how does the Czar react to Rasputin? Who is this Lenin and where did he come from? What is happening to the everyday Russian this whole time? What? But if Russia leaves the war, the German army will be able to regroup on the Western Front and crush the French.

  30. Russia in the Great War • At the beginning of WWI, Russia suffered from poor industry and a lack of supplies • The Russian strategy consists of sending ill equipped soldiers to tie up the Germans • The Czar leaves for the front line, which inevitably turns allows Russia to fall into the hands of the crazy monk Rasputin • V.I. Lenin has been gathering support for a full blown communist revolution • The topple of the Russian government might lead to a Russian withdrawal from WWI

  31. Wow. I wonder how Sirius Black is doing in the Ottoman Empire.

  32. The Ottoman Empire in the Great War

  33. For the last 300 years, the area that most people think of as the Middle East was controlled by the Ottoman Turks, but their empire was already weakening at the beginning of WWI.

  34. The Ottomans had a covert alliance with the Germans long before the war, and quickly moved against the Russians once the war broke out

  35. The Battle of Gallipoli

  36. Fighting the Turks seems to be costly for the Allies. But after the first few battles, the British are going to wise up and change their strategy.

  37. How can we destroy the Turks without sending our boys to die against them?

  38. I’ve got it. Let’s force a revolution in their country. Then they will fall apart.

  39. I bet we could fund the Arabs and encourage them to overthrow the Turks.

  40. And of course, the Arabs are going to play along because the British will promise them self rule after the war is through. And we’ve all learned from history that the British can be completely trusted when it comes to honoring promises of independence, right?

  41. British Ottoman Turks Ottoman Arabs

  42. British You guys are suckers!!! Ottoman Turks Ottoman Arabs

  43. I wonder when it starts to look like the Middle East we all know today, with countries like Iraq, Palestine, and Saudi Arabia? Let’s just write down what we know for now. So, regardless of whether or not the Ottoman Empire wins this war, the Middle East is getting ready to fall apart?

  44. The Ottoman Empire in the Great War • The Ottoman Turks of the Middle East joined the central powers in WWI • After extensive fighting for a water route to Russia (The Gallipoli Campaign), the British begin to encourage a revolt of the Arab population within the Ottoman Empire • A British officer named T.E. Lawrence leads Arabs in Egypt to fight for independence • Arabs cooperate with the British due to the promise of self rule at the war’s end • The Ottoman empire continues to weaken throughout the war, both to external fighting and internal disruption/terrorism

  45. Man, it’s like there is no good news in this war. I think I’m gonna go home before I get any more depressed.

  46. Not so fast, Harry. There is one more account that must be given some attention. And, regretfully, it is also of the most unfortunate nature.

  47. Focus on the Armenian Genocide

  48. Remember that at this time, everyone in the world has their attention on the war. Most things that don’t involve the two fronts or a different major battle won’t make the news. If there was ever a time to do something questionable, it’s now. The whole world is looking elsewhere.
