DONATING BLOOD IS A SIMPLE 4-STEP PROCESS The Donation Process Before donating - stay hydrated - eat iron-rich foods - fast at least 8 hours before your appointment. 1 Fill out the health history form. 2 The donation, which takes about 10 minutes for 500 mL of blood (a full unit bag). 3 Refreshments are provided to help replenish your body. It is advised to stay hydrated. You can resume any normal activities, however, refrain from heavy lifting. 4 Do not hesitate to ask us any questions during your donation. We are here to help you. Here's How It Works First-time donors will be asked to donate a very small tube of blood (about 10 ml). We screen this test sample for viruses such as HIV 1 and 2, hepatitis B and C, and syphilis. You will be paid $20.00 for this donation. Once we determine that there is no evidence of these viruses in your blood system, you will become a viable blood donor, and we will add you to our donor list. If you do show any evidence of the above viruses, we will call you and recommend that you see your doctor. Once you are on our blood donor list, you will be called from time to time and asked if you would like to donate blood for research. A unit of blood will be drawn, and you will be compensated $50. Schedule Your Donation What you need to know about the blood donation process The Health History Form Phlebotomists This form explains Solomon Park policies and procedures, provides contact information, consent, demographic information, medical history, and over the counter and prescription medications. All donors must ?ll out this form before each donation. Your blood donation will be taken by a professional phlebotomist. All of Solomon Park Research Laboratories (SPRL) phlebotomists are licensed and registered by the Washington State Department of Health.
