  2. What is a Security Licence? • In New South Wales, if you want to become a Security Guard in Australia you need a Security Licence to perform the job of Security Guard. Without Security Guard Licence, you’ll not allowed to offer your services as a bodyguard, cash transit offficer etc. • Security Licence is basically a certificate or permit which is issued by NSW Police to the person which means that the concerned person fulfills all the basic requirements to do a job of security person. • With Security Licence, you can offer your services at banks, malls, pubs, schools, universities and other places in order to prevent people as well as the property.

Why Security Licence is Required? • As per NSW Police, security people must be fit and able to perform the security operations, so that they can assure the safety and protection of public and the property. • If the security will not be capable to run or provide safety due to several reasons like illness, weight then such people are fit for the job of a security person and ultimately there will a loss of public and property during the terror attack. • So NSW Police issue Security Licence only to capable persons who pass the basic training and assessment from the recoginsed training orgainsations.

  4. How to Get a Security Licence? • In order to get a Security Licence in NSW you have to pass the basic NSW Security Licence Course. There are several courses to become a security guard in NSW. • For entry level person, Certificate II in Security Operations is recommended with basic First Aid Certification Course. By passing this course, the candidate will be able to do a job of unarmed security guard or patrolling officer. • The other course is Certificate III in Security Operations, with which you can perform the job of armed bodyguard or security guard in NSW.

  5. How to Get a Security Licence? • After passing the required Security Course, you’ll get the certificate of attainment from the recognised training organisation. After getting the basic attainment certificate you have to visit the nearest post office to lodge an application with 100 points of identification for the Security Licence from NSW. • After loading an application you’ll get an appointment to verify yourself and to submit the palm and thumb impressions. For that you have to visit your nearest police station. • Within 42 days of verification, you’ll get your Security Licence by post or other medium.

  6. Cost Structure • The cost of Certificate II in Security Course is AUD 550 if you’ll pay on the day of the course. But if you’ll pay in advance you’ll get the course in AUD 495. • While the Certificate III in Security Operations will cost you at AUD 1,100 on the day of the course. If you’ll pay in advance for the same course then it’ll cost you in AUD 980. • After passing the required course, you can apply for the security licence by visiting the website of NSW Police.
