  2. An Internship with SFUSD • The purpose of the PPSC intern training program is to provide a carefully supervised, in-depth experience at middle or high school sites throughout the city. • Learning the demands and structure of a school setting. • Placement at one school site.

What Does an Internship Look Like at the Middle and High School Levels? • Work with and Collaborate with School Counselors, Head Counselors, Assistant Principals, Nurses, Learning Support Professionals, Teachers, Wellness Coordinators, etc. • Students and parents • Participation in multi-disciplinary teams, such as SAP and SSTs • Case Management • Group Counseling • One on one counseling • Collaboration with teachers and other staff

  4. Supervisors • PPSC High School or Middle School Counselor • PPSC High School or Middle School Head Counselor • PPSC High School or Middle School Assistant Principal (if available)

  5. Supervision • Your Supervisor will be on site with you • Your Supervisor will assign cases to you • Your Supervisor will orient you to your school site in terms of space, phones, procedures, and the like. • Your supervisor will meet with you once a week for an hour of direct supervision • Your supervisor will sign off on your hours and evaluates your performance

  6. What are some of the Challenges? • Hand holding • Predictable • Creativity with space • Learning curve

  7. Next Steps • Arrange to have a TB test as soon as possible and forward the results to Theresa Jahangir. • Arrange for liability insurance. Visit the American School Counselors Association website, schoolcounselor.org, for details. • Fingerprinting.

  8. Next Steps Continued • Within the next several weeks, you will be notified if you have been accepted into the internship program. • Upon acceptance you will receive the names and contact information for approximately three school sites. You will then contact the school sites and set up interviews. • After your interview at the sites, please email Theresa Jahangir at jahangirt@sfusd.edu, with your first, second, third choice. • You will be contacted an official match by the end of our school year.
