  21. Jabulani Partners D9270 KZN SOUTH AFRICA New Project –KZN Youth Empowerment Project ROTARY CLUB OF WESTVILLE Objectives Identify & address needs of orphaned & vulnerable children Empower them through life skills development and sports activities Raise community awareness of HIV/AIDS

Accomplishments—Gifts to Serve • Three Rotary International Foundation Giving Opportunities: • Poliio Plus • Annual Fund • Permanent Fund • From our Members: • 14 have contributed to RIF Annual Fund this year • 57 have given to Polio Plus this year • 29 are Paul Harris Fellows • 3 are Benefactors to the Permanent Fund

Expected Accomplishments • RI Donor Advised Fund • Second Fireside Chat • (May 9, 6 pm., Barb Ford’s) • Holloway High School Career Day May 17 • We will need volunteers to talk about careers • District Conference May 18 & 19 • Franklin Marriott Cool Springs, please register • Charter Night • June 7, 6 pm., Center for The Arts • We need a beverage captain

  25. Start it Up in 2012-2013 • June 2, Strategic Planning Session • 9 to noon, come, give input, learn • Dictionary Project • Jabulani • Donor Advised Funding Begun • Second Fundraiser

  26. Fall/Future • Dictionary Project: • Get a dictionary in the hands of every third grader • Build a relationship with local schools • Expand awareness of Rotary • Support literacy • We need help: • Champion and captains to order, organize, distribute • Funds for dictionaries, pledges by school

Fall/Future • Jabulani Dinner Event, October 7th • Purpose: To fund projects managed by our sister club in Westville, South Africa • Cost $150 per person, limit 45 guests • Dinner by Executive Chef Brett Corrieri • Wine by Total Beverages • We need help: • Volunteers for Set Up, Service, Clean Up • Sponsors? Powells, Johnsons, Bishops, Ford?

  28. Fun and Future Funding • Purposes: • To help build the Donor Advised fund, self sustaining endowment • Replace the “cash calls” for: • Dictionary Project • Holloway High School Graduation Help • Good Shepherd’s Home Christmas Gifts • Additional Special Gifts funding • Provide a family event where we can have fun and increase our club’s visibility

  29. Why a Barbecue Event? • We have members with expertise and interest: • Dr. George Smith organized the Heritage Barbecue Festival, made it a big success • Also has the equipment for smoking huge quantities • We have six sanctioned Kansas City judges • We hope for help from Mr. Jim Crumley • The area has no barbecue event anymore • Face it, barbecue is fun

  30. Do we do it? • Tentatively, we planned Nov. 2&3 • We need to know: • Will you support the event? • How will you support the event? • What should we call it? • Best name as judged by the committee wins a prize • If we get enough pledges of support, we will pursue making this the best barbecue competition in town!
