Objectives: • express requests and offers fluently and properly; • use proper words and expressions to talk about the plan for the future education; • get to know some useful information and knowledge concerning the education in America and China; • express date and time properly and correctly; • conduct a series of speaking activities to develop oral English communicative competence.

  5. Talk about Request and Offer: • Dialogue 1: A: Could I attend courses for adults in your college? B: Well, if you are qualified, there will be no problem. • Dialogue 2: A: Do you offer elementary education to kids from abroad? B: Yes, and there are some different requirements.

  6. Talk about Request and Offer: • Dialogue 3: A: Is there anything you want to know about American education? B: Thanks a lot, but I have nothing to ask at the moment. • Dialogue 4: A: Can I help you with the book? B: Yes, it is very nice of you to offer.

  7. Useful expressions of requests and offers: 1) Can I offer an interesting book? 2) Shall I ...? 3) Can I do anything to help? 4) Is there anything I can do for you? 5) Would you like me to …? 6) Would/ Could you … please? 7) Would you be so kind as to …? 8) If there is anything I can do, I’d be happy to help. 9) Please ring me whenever you need me. 10) If you want anything, just let me know.

Let’s talk! • Situation 1:Your friend, John, is going to move to new house next week. • Situation 2: Tom’s sister is going to college next month. • Situation 3: Jane is preparing for CET4. • Situation 4: Tim wants to buy a new computer. • Situation 5: Henry has some difficulties in speaking in public.

  10. Work in groups of four to design a situation and make up a short conversation by using the expressions of request and offer.

  11. Act it out • Pair work: Try to act out the conversations on P41. • Situational dialogue: Try to make up a dialogue with partner according to the following situation. A teacher is talking with a student about future education.

Look and describe • Discussion Look at the picture on P43, and try to answer the following Qs: 1) What can you see in the picture? 2) What do you think is the picture about? 3) What are they doing? And where are they? 4) What do you think are they talking about? 5) Do they look happy or not? Guess the reasons.

  13. Look and describe • Trying to speak Try to describe the picture by using the following words: 1) training class 2) distance learning 3) e-learning 4) continue 5) extend 6) efficient 7) pursue one’s dream 8) It is never too late to be learn.

  14. Make a speech • Discussion Work in groups of four to discuss the short- term plan and long- term plan for future education. ( for reference: pass CET 6, learn the computer, improve my listening and speaking…) • Design a speech card based on “ My Plan for Future Education”

  16. Assignment • Recite the conversations on P41. • Keep in mind the expressions of requests and offers, and try to use them in daily life. • Try to make up a dialogue with partner according to the situation: A teacher is talking with a student about future education.
