  2. THE BIG PICTURE Identify your key components and greatest strengths. Focus on these first.

  3. Now, find your focus… • Is the staff set up to support the members? If not, who is? • How many volunteers are active now? • Are the instructors supported? • What support do you have from the university? • Where does your curriculum come from? • Do your committees reflect your needs? • What is the most important objective to your organization? • Who does your community networking?

  4. Now LOOK for the Rocks (not the Sand)… • What makes you unique? • When members talk about your program what do they highlight? • What makes your community/culture? • Name things that consistently draw your members together. • What do you want to accomplish/what is your focus? • Play off your strengths.

Mission Statement The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) @ Furman is a member-led, member-run, diverse learning community of senior adults engaged in non-credit educational courses and programs, social opportunities and physical activities that inspire students to stay mentally and physically active in a supportive, nurturing and fulfilling university environment.

  6. …The evolving success of the program will be measured by: • the enthusiasm and excitement exhibited by our members for the courses, instructors and various programs, • by member participation in the operation of the program, • by retained and increased membership, and • by the sense of community members share with one another. Strategic Plan NUMBER 1 (of 8) OLLI @ Furman recognizes that the curriculum and the instructors are the heart of the program and must have priority attention and support from the whole organization. OLLI will assure the high quality and wide range of course offerings and will identify, cultivate and recognize instructors through proactive initiatives and member support.

  12. Goals and Action Plans NUMBER 3. OLLI @ Furman’s goal is to have 100% membership participation. To that effect, OLLI will encourage members to participate actively in OLLI by providing and promoting all levels of volunteer opportunities for the various skills and talents of our membership .

MAKING Goals and Action PlanS WORK NUMBER 8 Plans will be updated on an annual basis. • The Long Range Planning Committee will review OLLI goals and make recommendations at the Winter Council meeting. • The Executive Committee will solicit action plans addressing the goals from Committee Chairs after the Spring membership meeting. • Committees will submit action plans to the Council for review and approval at the Fall Council meeting.
