  3. What is Overdrive? • A website that allows libraries to loan media to their patrons • An application that allows patrons to borrow media from libraries • A way for libraries to extend their services to patrons

  4. How Does Overdrive Work? • Overdrive is a downloadable program • It is also an application for smartphones and tablets • After downloading the overdrive media console, media may be borrowed through a library consortium • Content is downloaded to the selected device and can then be accessed

  5. What is the Media Console? • The Media Console is the interface through which users may borrow content • The Media console is downloaded to accepted devices • It can then be used to browse for, download, and access content through the Indiana Digital media website

  6. What Devices Will Work? • Desktops and Laptops running Windows or Mac • Nook • Kindle • Most tablets • Most mobile devices • A list may be accessed here

  7. How Do I Download the Overdrive Media Console • Desktop/ Laptop • Tablet/ Mobile Device • What About E-Readers?

  8. Desktop/Laptop • Download Correct Version • Run the Set-up program • Follow the Installer Instructions • Open the OMC

  9. Tablet or Mobile Device • Download the Correct Version • Go to the Correct Site • Install the App on the Device • Click for Tablet Video

  10. E-reader • E-readers are special • First the media needs to be downloaded to your desktop/laptop (except for the Kindle Fire) • Then you transfer the media to your device via your cable • A list of compatible devices is included here

  11. Downloading the Overdrive App to a Tablet or Mobile Phone • Go to the App Store • Search for Overdrive • Install the App • Open the App

  12. How Do I Use the OMC? • After checking out, media may be downloaded to the Overdrive Media Console • Drag the file to the OMC • Click ok to start the download • Your content is now accessible

OMC Extended • You can wait to download items after storing them in the OMC • You can transfer files to your mobile device using the transfer button in the OMC • The device must be connected to your laptop/desktop • Some media may be burned to CD using the Burn to CD button • If you click the Burn to CD button it will tell you if the license prohibits burning to CD • Currently, media may be deleted from the OMC before the due date, but they cannot be returned to the Indiana Digital Media Library for another patron to check out

  14. What is Indiana Digital Media? • Indiana Digital Media is the website and consortium through which TCPL patrons may access downloadable content

  15. How Do I Find the Indiana Digital Media Website? • First go to the TCPL website (www.tcpl.lib.in.us) • Then click Downloadables in the left column

  16. How Do I Sign-In to Indiana Digital Media? • Once on the IDM website, click sign-in • Choose your library (TCPL) • Type in your library card number and password

  17. What Kinds of Media Can I Borrow? • Ebooks • Graphic Novels • Audiobooks • Music • Videos

Downloading Ebooks • First browse or search for the book you would like • Click “Add to Cart” under the appropriate format • Choose the format for your device and platform • Go to your cart and click “Proceed to Check out” • Confirm your checkout • Click the button to download the content • You may need an Adobe Digital ID to access content (more information) • Graphic Novels are different

  19. How to Create an Adobe Digital ID • Go to the Adobe ID website • Click “Create an Adobe Account” • Fill out the needed information • Click Continue • You now have an Adobe ID

  20. Downloading Adobe Digital Editions • Go to the Adobe Digital Editions webpage • Click Launch • This will start the download process • Open Adobe Digital Editions • You may need to Authorize your Adobe Digital Editions program with your Adobe ID before you can access library items

Downloading Graphic Novels • First browse or search for the graphic novel you would like • Click “Add to Cart” under the appropriate format • Choose the format for your device and platform • Go to your cart and click “Proceed to Check out” • Confirm your checkout • Click the button to download the content

Downloading Audiobooks • First browse or search for the audiobook you would like • Click “Add to Cart” under the appropriate format • Choose the format for your device and platform • Go to your cart and click “Proceed to Check out” • Confirm your checkout • Click the button to download the content

  23. Downloading Music • First browse or search for the music cd you would like • Click “Add to Cart” under the appropriate format • Choose the format for your device and platform • Go to your cart and “Proceed to Check out” • Confirm your checkout • Click the button to download the content

Common Questions • Where do I go to borrow media? • The Indiana Digital Media Website • Where can I find the link? • Go the TCPL website and click on Downloadables in the left column • How long do I have to read/listen to my media? • As with regular library items, you may check items out for 14 days. There is also a 7 day option. • How many items may I check out? • You may check out ten items • Can I place an item on hold? • Yes, and just like a regular hold, the website will email you when the hold is available
