  2. “Noise” in the cable network is one of the greatest hurdles to applying superior, high-speed data, DOCSIS 3.0 services, requiring high integrity signal transmission. Noise ingress reduces network capacity. Removing noise is the greatest challenge faced by Cable operators as they seek to migrate to 64 QAM and eventually to 256 QAM digital modulations.

  3. Ingress Noise? Perhaps an obvious question? Ingress noise—Over-the-air signals (2-ways radio, Off-Air, FM, Electrical noise , etc.) that are inadvertently coupled into the nominally closed coaxial cable distribution system. Ingress noise is difficult to track down and is intermittent in nature. As much as 80% to 90% of noise and ingress on the plant is generated at the Subscriber site.

  4. “Funneling Effect” “Funneling Effect” shows the structural defect of “the last two way signal over coax part”. It limits performance of the network, and conceals the superiority of the CMTS-CM Mode.

  5. Solving the “Funneling Effect” Principle of solving “Funneling Effect” by ingress Gate technology: Cable Modem sends back RF signal use TDM model. Each Cable Modem’s upload time and time slot assignment are controlled accurately by CMTS. At any given time, only one Cable Modem upload signal can take place in the CABLE system. Ingress Gate opens upstream channel only when Cable modem is transmitting. Ingress Gate keeps all other upstream paths closed, therefore only one path at a time can transmit a signal to CMTS.

  6. Upstream Ingress Noise Test Disconnect from the tap and plug the drop cable directly into the meter. This provides a spectral view of what is getting onto the upstream path from building and transmitting back up the network. Use the 5-65 MHz band.

Suggested Changes • Add upstream spectrum test to each home installation. • All ingress noise from 5 to 45 MHz must be lower than 30dBmV. • If ingress above design level, simply replace regular home amplifier with safecom IGDA model, Ingress Noise will immediately reduce by min 15dB. • If there is no home amplifier installed simply use Passive forward INGRESS GATE 5dB return for blocking all ingress noise from premises.
