  1. What is NAMS? • The NASA Account Management System is NASA’s Agency-wide process for requesting and maintaining accounts for all NASA applications and IT systems. • Provides a secure, consistent, expedient, and accurate account management environment across the Agency in support of One NASA and HSPD-12 • NAMS will be the only way to obtain access to NASA IT systems and applications • Integration of systems and applications into NAMS is a phased implementation, so both NAMS and CICO will be used in parallel for a time • You will continue to use CICO to request physical assets (computers, desk phones, cell phones, etc.) • Designed as a Web interface system for end users to not only create, but also modify and close existing application accounts • NAMS is a subsystem within the Agency NASA Integrated Services Environment Project. It is part of the Identity Management System (IdMAX)

  2. NAMS Roles Defined • User • A User is a NASA-badged employee who requires access to a NASA application and follows the NAMS process to obtain account access and privileges. • Requester • A Requester is the person submitting the request. This can be either the User or any other NASA-badged employee requesting on behalf of a User. • Sponsor • A Sponsor reviews and validates the business justification for a User to have access to the requested application, the duration of the account, and the urgency of the request. • In general, the Sponsor is the User’s direct supervisor/manager. • Approver • An Approver is a NASA civil servant or NASA-badged contractor with the authority, judgment, and experience to determine whether a request for access to his/her NASA application is warranted based on the NAMS request.

  3. NAMS Roles Defined (Cont.) • Provisioner • The Provisioner is the Account Administrator for the requested NASA application. • aAAO • The Associate AAO (aAAO) is a NASA civil servant or a NASA-badged contractor who provides assistance and guidance to a User on how to use NAMS. The aAAO is also responsible for Priority and Emergency requests. • AAO • The Account Authorization Official (AAO) is the NASA Center official who coordinates and oversees the implementation and maintenance of NAMS at the Center.

  4. How does Your Sponsor Decide to Approve a Request? • Before approving a NAMS User request, a Sponsor asks these 4 questions: • Do I have a working relationship with the Requester? (Am I familiar with his/her job duties?) • Does this account request have a valid business justification? • Is the expiration date valid? • Are the correct permissions (roles) specified? • The answer to all of these questions should be YES. • If not, the Sponsor will reject the request.

  5. Special Circumstances • What happens when a Sponsor is out of the office? • Planned Absence • If your Sponsor will be on leave or travel and you want to submit a NAMS request during their absence, choose a different Sponsor. • Unexpected Absence • Users should call the Help Desk if they submit a NAMS request when you a Sponsor is out of the office unexpectedly. Only NAMS administrators can intercept and cancel a request awaiting approval so the User can submit a new request with a different Sponsor listed. • Who are the Sponsors for On-site Contractors and Off-site Employees? • On-site Contractors: Sponsor is the supervisor of record with a NASA-issued badge. This person can be either a civil servant or a contractor. • Off-site Employees (non-badged): Sponsor must be a civil servant with a NASA-issued badge.

  6. NAMS Request Flow Note:This is based on a generic workflow. Agency-wide and Center request flow may differ.
