Opinions and Knowledge on Autism/Asperger’s- Before reading/ research- After reading/ research- • Autism and Asperger’s are syndromes that you are born with • Social settings are hard for people with these syndromes • There is no cure to Autism or Asperger’s • Kids with these syndromes like Caitlin, have trouble understanding emotions • Sometimes it is difficult to understand and live with people with these syndromes • There is no known cause , but early brain development or genes could cause these syndromes

  3. Opinions of characters- Caitlin Beginning of book- Ending of book- • Shy • Rude • Sad • Doesn't understand things • Not social • Outgoing • Very intelligent • Caring

  4. Opinions on Characters- Michael Beginning of book- Ending of book- • Sad because of his mothers death • Shy • Doesn’t have many friends • Is starting to find closure • Becoming less shy • Starting to make friends • Is becoming happier

  7. Opinions on characters- Mrs. Brook Beginning of book- Ending of book- • Very helpful • Happy • Enjoys spending time with Caitlin • Understands Caitlin • Still very helpful • Helped Caitlin make new friends • Helps Caitlin with empathy • Helps find closure

  8. Caitlin and Anonymous CNN Manager (There has been an anonymous article written by a woman that works at CNN. She has written about her journey with Asperger’s.) Caitlin- Woman from CNN- • Avoids contact with people • Hard time understanding emotions and feelings • Doesn’t work well in social settings • Has trouble keeping eye contact • Takes thing seriously • Has TRM’s , a small tantrum when confused or overwhelmed • Is often bullied • Small talk is hard for her • Describes herself as very literal, “It is true that we can be very literal, so we often miss the humor in everyday banter, but we can and do enjoy even subtle humor. “ • Has trouble recognizing emotions on people faces • Says she often goes into a sensory overload when in a crowded room. • Is very sensitive to touch • Was bullied when she wasin school

  9. Great Book! • This book was one of the best I have read in a long time. It was informative, and carried many great messages. Before reading this book I knew just about nothing about people with Asperger’s or how interact with other people. This book was fantastic, and I will defiantly recommend it to a friend.
