  1. Just before Christmas British people send lots of cards, go to nativity play and carol services.

  2. People decorate their homes with paper decorations, branches of holly. a crib and a Christmas tree.

  3. On Christmas Eve children hang their stockings on the fireplace and leave a glass of sherry for Father Christmas and a carrot for Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer.

  4. The whole family has a large lunch. People usually have roast turkey with potatoes and for dessert a Christmas Pudding and mince pies.

  5. The 26th December is called BOXING DAY, because it is the day when the church gives the money collected in wooden boxes, to the poor.

  6. "Do They Know It's Christmas?" is a song written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in 1984 to raise money for relief of the 1983–1985 famine in Ethiopia. The original version was produced by Midge Ure and released by Band Aid in 1984. By the end of 1984 a report by BBC highlighted the famine that had hit the people of Ethiopia in 1984 -1985. The Irish singer Bob Geldof saw the report and wanted to raise money. He called Midge Ure from Ultravox and together they quickly co-wrote the song, "Do They Know It's Christmas? Geldof put together a group called Band Aid and they recorded the song. The singers were very popular: Sting (Police), Simon Le Bon (Duran Duran), Bono (U2), George Michael (Wham), Phil Collins (Genesis), Paul McCartney.
