  2. Middle School Course Offerings Currently, there are 10 Algebraic Thinking Schools – Carnage, Carroll, East Cary, East Garner, Heritage, Ligon, Martin, Moore Square, Wendell, Zebulon

  4. *What about those students recommended for Pre-Algebra in the 6th grade? • Completed 6th grade curriculum as a 5th grader • Compacted in previous year(s) • Nothing new - students need the full 6th grade curriculum before taking Pre-Algebra • Concern - Curriculum being taught inconsistently across the district

  5. Pre-requisites for placement from 5th to 6th Grade Pre-Algebra • Student receives daily instruction (at least four days per week) of the sixth grade curriculum from a certified teacher (K–6 or math) either at an elementary school or at a middle school (in their bus feeder pattern).

  6. Pre-requisites for placement from 5th to 6th Grade Pre-Algebra, continued….. • Student is proficient in the entire sixth grade curriculum. This is supported by a Level IV on the sixth grade math profile card and multiple (minimum of two per quarter) Level IV work samples.

  7. Pre-requisites for placement from 5th to 6th Grade Pre-Algebra, continued….. • The sixth grade Single Source and Instructional Guides, Holt and MathScape books, and sixth grade Blue Diamond assessments utilized throughout the year.

Pre-requisites for placement from 5th to 6th Grade Pre-Algebra, continued….. • The middle schools are requested to assign fifth graders into a first period class.  Transportation is a partnership between the parents/guardians and the district.  Parents are requested to provide transportation to the middle school and the district provides transportation back to the elementary school for the balance of the instructional day.  Fifth grade students will remain in the school district transportation feeder pattern.
