IDEA 619 Preschool Classroom Certification • Tennessee law requires that all child care programs, as defined in T.C.A. §§ 49-1-301(l) and 49-6-707, shall be reviewed annually by the Department of Education. • Why? To ensure all LEA administered birth to kindergarten classrooms operate under consistent high quality standards. • The primary purpose of LEA administered child care certification of approval is the protection of children. These minimum requirements seek to maintain adequate health, safety, and supervision of children while in a group setting. • The secondary purpose of certification is to promote developmentally appropriate care.
