  6. Platform design status (June 24th) beam

  7. “Z-Branch” Measurements April/May2003 • Measurements: • Phase B – post Triplet 2 & Collimator • Phase C – post Solenoid • Several unexpected problems encountered & Solved !!!

  8. Beam Jan 2002 2002 2003 2004 2005 Studies Quadrupoles Solenoid Target Jan 2003: Design Manufactoring Assembly Test Milestone

  9. Photon detector • Large prototype successfully operated with purified Xenon at TERAS: E2% • LP already shipped to PSI: will be better tested by making use of monocromatic photons • Need of a liquid hydrogen target • Cryostat project is being examined by F. Raffaelli (Pisa) who will follow its construction • PMT test facility under construction at Pisa • Deficit in the budget for 350 PMTs

  10. Photon Detector schedule 2002 2003 2004 2005 Large Prototype Beam Test Beam Test Engineering runs Vessel Design Manufactoring Assembly & Test PMT Delivery + Testing Assembly Test Refrigerator Manufactoring Assembly Liq. Purification Design Manufactoring Assembly Test Milestone

  11. Drift chambers • Prototypes of cathodes supporting structure • Print foils meeting the experimental requirements found • Tests at M1: drift time measurements and cathodes read-out • First studies on pattern recognition

  12. Positron Tracker Jan 2002: 2002 2003 2004 2005 Medium Prototype Charge division & Cosmics Full Prototype FP FP Full Detector (18 DC) Design Manufactoring Assembly Test Milestone

  13. Timing Counter Jan 2002: 2002 2003 2004 2005 PMT Evaluation PMT Design • Tests of fine mesh PMTs (even in magnetic fields) and of counter prototypes (M1) going on • Good solution for transverse detector: scintillating fibers + APDs Design Manufactoring Assembly Test Milestone

  14. Electronics • Need of at least two prototypes (both for the trigger and the DRS) • First trigger prototype to be tested in september • Second DRS design is soon going to be designed

  15. Trigger Jan 2002 2002 2003 2004 2005 Prototype Board 2nd Prototype Full System Design Manufactoring Assembly Test Milestone

  16. DRS (DAQ) Jan 2002 2002 2003 2004 2005 1st Prototype Tests 2nd Prototype Boards & Chip Test Design Manufactoring Assembly Test Milestone

  17. Complete Detector Jan 2002: 2002 2003 2004 2005 Platform Engineering Runs Detector Integration • Start of the experiment in 2006 • All possible engineering runs in 2005 Design Manufactoring Assembly Test Milestone

  18. Sensitivity We confirm our (July 02) estimates of detectors resolutions and therefore our goal of improving the present limit by two orders of magnitudes The rate is lowered in order to have ~ 0.5 background events for 1 signal event
