Semana santa • A religious festival to remember the resurrection of Jesus • Begins with “Domingo de Ramos” • Celebrations take place for the whole of Easter week • “Jueves santo” is Maundy Thursday • “Viernes santo” is Good Friday • “Lunes de Pascua” is Easter Monday • All cities and towns in Spain celebrate “Semana Santa” apart from Madrid and Barcelona.

  4. The “Dance of Death” takes place in a town called “Verges”

  5. The “Nazarenos” is a religious brotherhood. There are 57 “Nazarenos” throughout Spain.The men within the brotherhood are called “Penitentes”.They wear a hood called a “antifaz”. Some of them also wear a pointed cone on their heads. This is called a “capirote”.The “Penitentes” represent sinners and they are disguised to keep their identity a secret.
