The Universities • There are 3 universities in Glasgow • They are called, Glasgow University, Strathclyde University, and Caledonian University. • Glasgow is the 4th Oldest University in Britain and students come from over 80 different countries.
Shopping • Glasgow’s shops are renowned as the best in the UK outside London. • The Best places to shop are Buchanan Street, Prince´s Square and Merchant City. This centre is called the Buchanan Shopping Centre.
Sports Glasgow is a major centre for sport, including football, golf, sailing, hillwalking and climbing. Glasgow is home to 2 of the most important teams in the Scottish Premier League – Celtic and Rangers.
Festivals • There are many different festivals in Glasgow, these include: the Glasgow International Comedy Festival, Celtic Connections Folk Festival, the International Jazz Festival and the West End Festival.
Museums • There are 6 major museums in Glasgow. • You do not have to pay to go to these museums. • The most famous of these are, The Hunterian Museum, The Transport Museum and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
The Weather • The weather changes a lot in Glasgow but it normally rains a lot and is windy. • The summer is usually dry and the winter frequently wet. • In the summer, the maximum temperature could be as high as 25°C, and in the winter as low as -7°C.
The People • The people from Glasgow are called Glaswegians. • Glasgow people are usually very friendly. • Famous people from Glasgow include the comedian Billy Connelly and the manager of Manchester United, Alex Ferguson.
