  2. STEP 1- PRIOR DEPARTURE- WHAT TO PACK- POCKET MONEY- Q&A

PRIOR DEPARTURE • Your air travel will be advice by your hiring agency. • Make sure the date and time of travel on your ticket is correct. • Flight timings may confuse you (e.g. Boarding on 5/1/2000 at 00:45 means 4th night 12:45 PM and not 5th night, as many airlines start with 00:00 after midnight.) • Please seek advice from hiring agency if you are not sure on your air ticket. DO NOT ASSUME.

  4. PRIOR DEPARTURE Majority airline allow 2 pieces of check in luggage, 1 hand carry luggage + 1 laptop bag. You should also confirm about the luggage limit that you can carry (the weight and number of bags for both cabin and check in luggage) with the hiring agency.

  5. WHAT TO PACK? • Try to limit yourself to 1 suitcase only. You do not need too many personal clothes and shoes on the ship and don’t forget there is limited storage space in your living quarters ! • DO NOT bring and instant food or raw food!

  6. WHAT TO PACK? Uniforms will be provided on 1st day. Shoe is included. But there is a extra thing that you need to bring on board which will be enough for whole contract period: For F&B service position: • Black Sock • Shoe Cushion/Padding • Wine Opener • Hair Net (Female) For Kitchen position: • Black Sock • Shoe Cushion/Padding

  7. Hand Carry/Cabin Baggage • This is what you can carry with you in the plane. • Keep it small and handy, so that you can keep it in the overhead luggage space in the cabin. • All your travel and employment documents should be with you and not checked in!

  8. Hand Carry/Cabin Baggage • Empty Water Bottle. Buying drinking water from airport is expensive. Get an empty bottle to fill up water after you have check in usually is FREE. • Please carry at least 2 pen (Blue & Black color) for form filling purposes.

  9. Check in Baggage • Each piece of luggage should have your name and address tag so your luggage can be identified at the destination airport, especially if it gets lost.

  10. Check in Baggage • How to tag your bag? Please refer to “Information For Arrival – Officers and Crew” sheet. Please request it from hiring agency.

  11. Pocket Money • Get some currency of your destination country from an authorized Money Changer. We recommend carrying at least US$ 100 - 150.

  12. QUESTION AND ANSWER? • PLEASE DO NOT ASSUME! If you have doubt or question on your travel, please do not be shy to ask your hiring agency.

  13. STEP 2- AT THE AIRPORT- BAGGAGE SCAN- CHECK IN- KNOW YOUR WAY- IMMIGRATION

  14. AT THE AIRPORT • Make sure that you arrive to the correct terminal for your airline departure. • Try to reach the airport at least 3 hours before departure. This way you can get your seat preferences. You will have a long flight ahead, so choose a seat you are comfortable with!

  15. BAGGAGE SCAN • Check if your airport or airline requires you to security scan your luggage in the X-ray machine before check-in. They will usually put a stamp on your luggage

  16. CHECK IN! • At the check-in counter, hand over your luggage for check in • Take the boarding pass • Ask for your seat preference • Confirm transit details (if you have any flight changes) • Take a receipt of your checked-in luggage.

  17. KNOW YOUR WAY • Make sure you know your departure hall and also your gate. Please make sure you are at the Departure Gate at least 45 minute before scheduled departure time. If you are not sure, please ASK the airport staff. • DO NOT MISS YOUR FLIGHT!

  18. IMMIGRATION • Airport Security is a serious business in Europe and USA so follow the rules and don’t waste their time!

  19. STEP 3- INTERMEDIATE/TRANSIT AIRPORT

  20. INTERMEDIATE/TRANSIT AIRPORT As soon as you reach the intermediate/transit airport, first thing you must do is to look for the terminal and gate number of your next flight.

  21. INTERMEDIATE/TRANSIT AIRPORT • All airports normally have a very good map and direction instructions. But in case of any problems, ASKthe airport information staff

  22. INTERMEDIATE/TRANSIT AIRPORT • Once you find the gate, then depending on the time you have, you can relax or shop at the airport. Plan to be at your gate 45 minutes prior to the flight time, as they require some time to check your tickets etc. • You won't have to do any other formalities here, apart from passing through the metal detector, and X-ray of your hand baggage.

  23. INTERMEDIATE/TRANSIT AIRPORT TIPS: • You might have to wait more than 5 hours for your next flight. Please bring some books or laptop or hand held tablet to kill the waiting time. • If you plan to sleep, please make sure you have your alarm clock set or ask the flight staff to wake you up. Please DO NOT MISS your flight! • Remember to follow the LOCAL AIRPORT TIME for next departure time.

  24. INTERMEDIATE/TRANSIT AIRPORT • Please check with the ticketing office whether you need to collect your bag and re-check in again. Some airlines requires you to do so. • If you missed your flight due to delayed flight or cancelled flight, please do contact the airline helpdesk. Your airline representative will tell you what you can do. Alternately, please refer to your “Information For Arrival – Officers and Crew” for further contact information.

  26. IN-FLIGHT • Few hours before arrival, the flight attendants will give you arrival forms to fill. • One will be the aCustoms Form, and the other will be an Immigration Form. Fill them very carefully. Ask for help if you do not understand the forms. This is important.

  34. HOW TO FILL UP Custom Declaration Form U.S. Customs and Border Protection Declaration Form – Front • Write your last (family) name. Write your first (given) name. Write the first letter of your middle name. • Write your date of birth in the appropriate day/month/year boxes. • Write the number of family members traveling with you (do not include yourself). • Write your current street address in the United States. If you are staying at a hotel, include the hotel's name and street address. Write the city and the state in the appropriate boxes. • Write the name of the country that issued your passport. • Write your passport number. • Write the name of the country where you currently live.

HOW TO FILL UP Custom Declaration Form • Write the name of the country(ies) that you visited on your trip prior to arriving to the United States. • If traveling by airline, write the airline's name and flight number. If traveling by vessel (ship), write the vessel's name. • Mark an X in the Yes or No box. Are you traveling on a business (work-related) trip? • Mark an X in the Yes or No box. Are you bringing with you: • fruits, plants, food, or insects? • meats, animals, or animal/wildlife products? • disease agents, cell cultures, or snails? • soil or have you visited a farm/ranch/pasture outside the United States?

  36. HOW TO FILL UP Custom Declaration Form • Mark an X in the Yes or No box. Have you or any family members traveling with you been in close proximity of (such as touching or handling) livestock outside the United States? • Mark an X in the Yes or No box. Are you or any family members traveling with you bringing $10,000 or more in U.S. dollars or foreign equivalent in any form into the United States? Read definition of monetary instruments on the reverse side of the form. Examples: coins, cash, personal or cashier's check, traveler's checks, money orders, stocks, bonds. If yes, your must complete the Customs Form 4790. • Mark an X in the Yes or No box. Are you or any family members traveling with you bringing commercial merchandise into the United States? Examples: all articles intended to be sold or left in the United States, samples used for soliciting orders, or goods that are not considered personal effects. • If you are a U.S. resident, write the total value of all goods (including commercial merchandise) you or any family members traveling with you have purchased or acquired abroad (including gifts for someone else, but not items mailed to the United States) and are bringing into the United States. Note: U.S. residents are normally entitled to a duty-free exemption of $800 on items accompanying them

  37. HOW TO FILL UP Custom Declaration Form • If you are a visitor (non-U.S. Resident), write the total value of all goods (including commercial merchandise) you or any family members traveling with you are bringing into the United States and will remain in the United States. • Note: Visitors (non-U.S. Residents) are normally entitled to an exemption of $100.Declare all articles on this form. For gifts, please indicate the retail value. Use the reverse side of this form if additional space is needed to list the items you will declare.The U.S. Customs officer will determine duty. Duty will be assessed at the current rate on the first $1,000 above the exemption.Read the notice on the reverse side of the form.Sign the form and write the date.Keep the complete form with you and hand it to the CBP inspector when you approach the Customs and Border Protection area.Controlled substances, obscene articles, and toxic substances are generally prohibited entry.

  38. When You Reach Your Destination Airport in USA. • You will first proceed to the immigration counters. Please queue up in the line for foreign (Non-USA passports). Hand over your passport, immigration form and LOE to the Immigration Officer. He might ask you some questions – do not be afraid or nervous, answer them accurately and honestly! • After your passport is stamped, following the signs to ‘Baggage Claim’ and go to the correct belt to collect your checked-in luggage. For international flights, this can take time – expect to wait up to 1 hour for your bags! If you cannot locate your luggage, go to the ‘Baggage Assistance’ counter for your airline for help.

  39. When You Reach Your Destination Airport in USA. • After collecting your bags, head for the ‘Green’ exit signs and hand the Customs Officer your filled out Customs Form. • Once you are in the arrival hall, look out for a person holding out a sign of your Cruise Line employer. Go to him and explain that you are a new hire crewmember. Otherwise, if you have a hotel reservation, go to the shuttle pick up zone for transfer to your hotel. (Please refer to “Information For Arrival – Officers and Crew)

  40. IMPORTANT!! • ** Remember: If you are questioned by the airport officers, answer them properly without any fear. • But be careful, there should not be any discrepancy in the information stated in your documents and what you answer. • It has happened in few cases, that due to the unsatisfactory answers about the stay, status, etc. people have been deported immediately.

  41. TRANSIT VISA ** In case you have to change the terminal, then first find out information about the connecting airport shuttle to the respective terminal. It is always advisable to find out such information beforehand, as in some countries, you may need a TRANSIT VISA to leave one airport, to go to the other one.

  42. Making a call from the Airport. You can make a call anywhere in the world from most of the airport public booths using visa/master cards. You will find dial-in instructions on the phone. Most phone system has options to use your credit card. An international calling card can also be purchased at most intermediate airport. You can enquire about it at the information counter at the airport. Collect call - Search on the internet for more details about how to make a collect call to USA from any where in the world.
