Isha Vidhya – Plan & Goals • The first phase of Isha Vidhya’s endeavor is focused on bringing about a noticeable change in the educational landscape of rural Tamil Nadu. • Towards this, Isha Vidhya will establish 206 schools, one per each taluk in rural Tamil Nadu, delivering education that meets the vision, within the next 5 – 10 years.

Isha Vidhya – Goals • Providing affordable high quality education for rural areas • Going beyond literacy and rudimentary education • Creating confident, English speaking, computer-skilled students • Empowering rural children to participate globally • Focusing on including girl children • Increasing educational awareness in rural societies • Isha Vidhya’s key mandates are to do all the above while preserving the identities of their origin and culture

  6. 2009 Asha supported Students Performance • 80 children supported by ASHA in Tuticorian school • 78 students passed to next grade • 2 students retained in the same grade, with their parents consent 6

Isha Vidhya Status • 2006 - The first Isha Vidhya School was startedat Sandegounden Palayam, Coimbatore -289 students • 2007 - Three additional schools opened: • Kootampuli village near Tuticorin • Perumapalayam village near Erode • Kurandi village near Nagerkovil • 2009 - Two additional schools opened: • Villupuram & Cuddalore • Tsunmai affected & extremely back ward area • 2009 • 2010 - one additional school opened: • Vanavasi near Metur • Total Strength at all schools : 2800 • Target Number of children under scholarship: 1800

  9. 2010 Scholarship requirements Total No. of scholarships requested from ASHA : 80 • Scholarship is for 80 students at Isha Vidhya School in Kootampuli village near Tuticorin Total Scholarship Cost* : Rs. 10000/$240 (child/year) • Sponsors are requested to commit for 12 years of education Total Funding requirement for the academic year 2010-11 = 80 * 10000 = Rs 8,00,000
