  1. Different Types Of Press Brake Bending Techniques When you go for press braking you have to know exactly what it is. It is a simple method where an arrow shaped punch presses a sheet metal plank into a V shaped die. It forms an angle. But that is not all. There have been a lot of modification to the idea of press braking and it has come a long way in the recent years. Few very interesting techniques involving press brakes are wiping, rocker dies, 3 ways bending and elastomeric bending. Wiping operation Unlike simpler shaping methods the wiping operation consists of more than one movement. A special die set has to be used which has a movable bottom die. The punch moves down and executes the first part of the vent and the bottom element receives a plank which is later pressed on its spring. The second part of the bend is executed after the motion activites the element on the back of the die. This technique is mostly used to make radiuses return flange. The plank is pushed down on the first spring-loaded element and this resulting motion bends the plank to the right angle with a radius at the point where it is bending. The folding edge of the plank cover is completed after the second element comes into play. This creates a return flange in the process. Rocker dies This is a special type of die. It exhibits a 1 axis joint and it is used to enter a bottom die with an obscured opening. You can form this type of die after channelling it to one place even when the flange is very short. Rocker dies are also known to provide major benefits in reduced setup time as well as fewer operations are needed to change the shape. 3 point bending Another interesting type of bending is the 3 point bending and is used to create a special type of die set. Here the bottom die has an element and that can be adjusted in height using a servo motor. A special hydraulic cushion helps in compensating for the little variations of the plank. The top die also needs to be buffered from a ram. The two dies make it possible to get precision in the angle being bent in the piece up to 0.25 degrees. This type of process can be a bit expensive though. Elastometere bending In this type of bending the bottom die is not steel rather a flat piece of synthetic materials which is used to serve and wrap the plank around the punch. The new radius which is formed is very close to the actual punch radius and then there is very little spring back. Know what type of press brake you will need before you buy them. As you can see they can be used for a variety of bending projects so be a little bit careful when you are going for the used press brake. Go for items like Amada punch press so that you only get the best equipment when it comes to punching or pressing. Contact Altparts.com to know more.
