  2. What is ART ? 2

  3. Masterpiece • DISCOVER

  4. Beethovens 9th Symphony

  5. What do we call a person who is the best in their field? • Master /’mas-ter/ • : a worker or artisan qualified to teach apprentices • : an artist, performer, or player of consummate skill • : a great figure of the past whose work serves as a model or ideal

  6. What does a student need to become a “master”?

  7. What would you call these?

  8. “Masterpiece” • In modern usage refers to a creation that has been given much critical praise, especially one that is considered the greatest work of a person’s career • or to a work of outstanding creativity, skill or workmanship.

  9. To be in the presence of a “Masterpiece”

  10. David

  11. Mona Lisa

  12. guernica

  13. guernica • Painting by Pablo Picasso • Depicts the bombing of Guernica, Spain, by German and Italian warplanes at the request of the Spanish Nationalist forces, on April 26, 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. • The Spanish Republican government commissioned Pablo Picasso to create a large mural for the Spanish display at the 1937 World’s Fair in Paris.

  14. the painting • Guernica is gray, black and white, 11 feet tall and 25.6 feet wide, canvas painted in oil. • Can be seen at the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid. • Guernica shows suffering people, animals and buildings wrenched by violence and chaos.

  15. images • Many “hidden” images can be found in the painting. • Probably the most talked about is a light bulb that blazes over a suffering horses head. • The bare bulb of the torturer’s cell. • Picasso’s intended symbolism is related to the Spanish word for light bulb; “bombilla”, which makes an allusion to “bomb” and therefore signifies the destructing effect technology can have on society.

  17. Are we creating “Masterpieces”?

  25. Matisse • Our inspiration for the Cosmetology

  26. Henri Matisse • A french artist, known for his use of color and his fluid, brilliant and original drawings. • Matisse is one of the best known artists of the 20th century. • His body of work spans a half-century. • Leading figure in modern art.

  27. his art • Although he was a draftsman, printmaker and sculpture, he was principally a painter. • Towards the end of his life following a surgery that left him in a wheelchair, he could no longer paint as he wanted. • With the help of assistants he set about creating cut paper collages, often on large scale. He is well known for this new medium. • His Blue Nudes series feature prime examples of this technique he called • “painting with scissors”.

  28. “painting with scissors”

  29. Casal Aveda Institute’s interpretation of: “painting with scissors”

  30. Esthiology is inspired by the “Amulet” This artist interpretation of a hand was usually made of silver because it symbolized mercy. Iron was sometimes used because it helped to drive away demons. The amulet solves the issues of a person’s lack of confidence on 2 levels. The first being the lack of belief in one’s abilities; the second being the lack of knowledge regarding the future.

  31. our amulet • Features a stamped pattern of the sun around the border which represents the infinite creative energy that is available to the individual. • A moon; whose function is to give form to this energy and help realize it’s full potential. • Vines to symbolize strong and lasting friendship.

  32. Esthiology Hard to see “touch” in the background. It’s written in a shade of blue on a cream background. • different shades of purple. • The descriptions of the elements surround the amulet. • The background of the entire image is the watermark….. “touch”

  33. consider this… • Licensed vs. Professional • Hairdresser vs. Hair Stylist • Job vs. Career • Technician vs. Master

  34. This is an exciting program and we are all about to experience what we can create. With all of this inspiration ”we are creating Masterpieces”
