  2. Monologue • short speech taken from a play • two to three short paragraphs long

  3. Slate • Definition: introduction to your monologue • State your name clearly, the part and play you are playing Example: “I am Imen Sane and I will be playing Hamlet from Hamlet and also .”

  4. Audition Notebook • Professional actors • 20-30 monologues • From plays or literary sources • Show range – Shakespeare, dramatic, comedic, eccentric, etc. • When auditioning: choose monologue based on audition part • From same time period/genre but not from the play • Musicals- music numbers of all types

  5. Activity • Write a half page monologue • Character • Character always has an important want • Hook • Conflict (add obstacles) • Ending

  7. Day of Audition • Wear nice clothes – no jeans, sneakers, ripped t-shirts, no five o’clock shadows • Bring dance clothes if required • Bring extra head shots (not for me) • Arrive early • Stretch, vocal exercises and tongue twisters

  8. Day of Audition • Walk in confident • Be friendly – real/honest • Be yourself and what character type you can do best!
