  2. What steps can you take to be safe online?

INTERNET SAFETY TIPS!!! • Don’t communicate with someone you do not know! • Never give out your passwords, even to your “friends”! • Use different passwords for your different accounts! • Never click on links that are unknown or sent from untrustworthy sources! • How do you know the person your talking with online is really who they say they are??? • Report anything suspicious to you’re parents or trusted adults!

  4. Sexting: Definition and safety tips! • “Sexting” refers to teens sharing nude and/or sexually suggestive photos of themselves or anyone else. Usually via cell phones but can be any other electronic device. • It is ILLEGAL to take or send nude or sexually suggestive photos of yourself!!! You could be charged with producing or distributing child pornography! You could also be charged with possession if you have this on your phone or computer. • What about the emotional (and reputation) damage that can come from having these photos of you passed from person to person?

  5. What can you and your parents do, if you are being bullied/harassed online? • Stop, block, and tell! • Save the evidence. Don’t trash the email or text message! Save the chat or IM session. • Identify the cyberbully if you can. Ask your ISP or contact a company that traces the identity of people online. • An attorney can help identify the cyberbully. • If a crime as occurred, the police can identify the cyberbully.

  6. More tips and information! • Bystanders are NOT neutral! Not intervening lends power to the bully! • Not doing anything is you taking part!!! • Speaking up and lending a hand to the victims will easily tip the scales in favor of eliminating bullying! • Use your strong and positive leadership skills to change the situation!

  7. Targets: What do do! • Stand up for yourself in a positive, firm way! Bullying back does NOT work! • Say no to feeling inferior! • Stay out of “The Kitchen”!!! If you always seem to be in the middle of all the drama??? • Report bullying to any adult. • Use the online reporting system.

  8. Conclusion • Think about your own safety whenever you’re online or texting! • Read and reread everything before hitting send!!! • Try not sending messages when you’re upset or angry! • Go to an adult if you EVER feel unsafe!
