Obvious Dangers • Within hours she had been kidnapped, raped and killed by Peter Chapman who dumped her body in a field close to a Little Chef restaurant on the outskirts of Sedgefield, Co Durham. • Her mother Andrea said: “She wasn’t a bad kid, she wasn’t naughty. She made one mistake and paid for it with her life.”

  4. Facebook and other Networks • When you put something on Facebook, it stays there FOREVER! • Do you know why? • Because someone else owns it now. • And that person has 175 Million views a day! • They own what you put on, and you can’t get it back!

  5. Expelled! • Austin Carroll- Expelled from school for tweeting a message containing the f-word numerous times. It was months before he should have graduated. • Taylor Cummings- athlete in school, about to graduate from prestigious school. Fell out with one of his coaches and took his frustration out on facebook. Says he didn’t mean it, didn’t stop the school from expelling him. They didn’t want to take any chances. • David- identity had to be covered up for legal reasons, but that didn’t stop his school from expelling him. He put a status on about how he hated school after a rough day, and he was expelled. No questions.

  6. Sacked! • Caitlin Davis was a professional cheerleader, until a picture appeared on facebook of her next to a passed out friend covered in pen. It wasn’t even confirmed that she wrote on the person or just posing with a pen. Either way she was fired. • Ashley Payne is seen holding two drinks. After this popped up on facebook, she was fired without question. She is fighting to get her job back but her details are now all over the internet and no company wants anything to do with her. • Guardsman Cameron Reilly posted a comment about Kate Middleton, someone who he has never spoken to or would ever meet. He did however, get fired all the same for this comment.

Convicted! • Paul Chambers, 28, of Northern Ireland, was found guilty in May 2010 of sending a "menacing electronic communication". • Police were inundated with complaints as members of the public reported the student's comments. Stacey, a Swansea University biology undergraduate, was quickly tracked down and arrested. He was jailed for 56 days. • "He did seem genuinely remorseful and regretful for what he had done. "At the time he posted these comments not once did he think he would find himself where he is today. "He fully accepts he was the author of his own misfortune."

  8. Advice from a top US University Be prepared to answer questions about your Facebook account in job interviews. It has become common for interviewers to ask applicants, Are you on Facebook? And What is your Facebook profile? BE PREPAREDto either decline the question or answer honestly because employers will most likely look at your Facebook account themselves or already have!

Our Message • Socialnetworking and media are fantastic tools we can use to enhance and share our own life experiences. • Unsocialmedia is the misuse of technology to threaten, bully, and/or intimidate people…as well as ruin your own future by making an idiot of yourself! • If you wouldn’t say it in a room full of people – don’t put it into networks totalling billions of views!
