  1. New GCES Dismissal Process Back To School Night September 27, 2012

  2. Issues with Current Dismissal Procedures • Student Safety • Traffic Congestion

  3. Enhanced Dismissal Procedures will… • Ensure safety for all students • Alleviate traffic congestion for a smoother dismissal

  4. Important Changes • Parents will receive several signs (if you have more than one car or adult who picks up your child) with their child’s name and grade level on them. • Parents will display the sign in the front window of their car. • GCES staff members will read the sign, find the correct student, and deliver them to the correct car/adult. Child/Children Name/s Grade Level

  5. Signs will… • Be color coded by primary (K-2), intermediate (3-5) or multi-student if more than 1 student in a family attends GCES. • Students will stand in a designated spot in these groupings to avoid confusion and delay in the dismissal process. • K-2 area • 3-5 area • Sibling area

  6. Staff Members will…. • Be at the end of our property line with a walkie talkie. • Look at the sign in each vehicle and alert the staff members with the students by walkie talkie which students’ family members are getting ready to enter the car loop. • Staff members with students will locate the correct student/s and look for their vehicle. • A staff member will open the vehicle door, help the student/s inside the vehicle and shut the door.

  7. Parents can help with dismissal by… • Pulling up as close as possible to the curb (this helps keep students safe) • Letting a GCES staff member open your door and put your child/children in the vehicle • If you want to get out of your car (even briefly) to get your child please park in the parking lot and then walk up to the area where the child/children are waiting • Making sure your sign is displayed clearly in your window (several signs will be given for multi-car situations)

  8. If you forget your sign… • You will be kindly asked to park your car, walk into the front office and show identification to ensure the safety of the students. • This will be the rule even if we’ve known your family for years to ensure that there is consistency with the process of keeping all students safe at all times 

  9. When will these changes occur? • Monday, October 29th will be the first day for the new dismissal process. • The first week students will be let out a couple of minutes prior to the bell to help them (you and our GCES staff too!) get used to the new procedures. • EVERY parent will receive these signs in their child’s Friday folder on Thursday, Oct. 18th. (no school on Friday, 10/19)

  10. At GCES Safety For All Students Is # 1 • Thank you in advance for your help with following new car pool regulations to help us ensure that all students are safe. • Thank you in advance for your patience the first week of our new dismissal system while we work out the kinks and get things running smoothly! • With parents, staff, and students working together our new dismissal process will be safe and efficient!

  11. Remember Students Can Also…. • Walk to school in groups or with designated adults • Ride the bus (you can meet them at the bus stop!)

  12. Thanks!!! • Dawn Pettit (Kindergarten Teacher) was instrumental in coming up with this plan to help the GCES dismissal process be as safe as possible.
