Estimated record level risk for the CVTS

This study by Liv Belsby and Stuart McAllister evaluates the record-level risk of anonymisation in the CVTS. Conducted with collaboration from Eurostat and National Statistical Institutes, it utilizes intruder scenario analysis data, focusing on identifying variables such as NACE and company size. The assessment includes various European countries including Belgium, Germany, and Spain. Our findings indicate that while initial anonymisation efforts have taken place, further measures are necessary to ensure privacy protection.

  2. The Goal was to assess the anonymisation • The anonymisation was agreed on by Eurostat and the National Statistical Institutes • We based the assessment on record level risk

Intruder scenario • NACE, number of employees and involved in take over or not are used as identifying variables • Possible external information source is The European Business Registers (Internet site www.ebr.org) • Includes Belgium, Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Spain and Sweden

  4. Estimation • The total number of companies within each stratum defined by NACE and size is known, say N(s) • No superpopulation model assumed • The total number with id. var. NACE, size and take over or not N(s,i), i equals 0 or 1, is unknown • Estimator E(1/N(s,i) | sample data, N(s)) • The companies, which are not in the sample: N(s) – n(s) binomial distributed – outcome involved in take over or not
