  1. 33 Riches of Divine Grace Circumcised in Christ • When you think of circumcision, what 1st comes to mind? • Made with hands? • Let’s read Gen 17:1-14 • Now Rom 4:9-12 “Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised. • Isn’t this is the circumcision made without hands? • Made without hands? • Eph 2:11 – “Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh--who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands–” 1 May 4, 2008 Bob Eckel

  2. 33 Riches of Divine Grace Circumcised in Christ • Rom 2:29 “But he [is] a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision [is that] ofthe heart, in the spirit, [and] not in the letter; whose praise [is] not of men, but of God.” • Why did the manual circumcision fail or did it? • God wanted Israel to circumcise the skin of their hearts and not continue to be stiff-necked - even in the trials in Egypt – Deut 10:14-19 • A similar call of God to the backsliden Judah was given – Jer 4:1-4 More Law right? • Rom 2:25-29 “For circumcision is indeed profitable if you keep the law; but if you are a breaker of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. Therefore, if an uncircumcised man keeps the righteous requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision? And will not the physically uncircumcised, if he fulfills the law, judge you who, even with your written code and circumcision, are a transgressor of the law? For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.” • In the Palestinian Covenant, the Lord promised themtheland and circumcision of the heart to follow – Deut 30:3-6 What events are we speaking about here? What does the Palestinian Covenant entail? 2 May 4, 2008 Bob Eckel

  3. 33 Riches of Divine Grace Circumcised in Christ • The Palestinian Covenant (Scofield) • Dispersion for disobedience • Deut 30:1; Deut 28:63-68 • Future repentance of Israel while in dispersion • Deut 30:2 • The return of the Lord • Deut 30:3; Amos 9:9-15; Acts 15:14-17 • Restoration to the land • Deut 30:5; Isa 11:11,12; Jer 23:3-8; Ezek 37:21-25 • National conversion • Deut 30:6; Hos 2:14-16; Rom 11:26,27 • Judgment of Israel’s oppressors • Deut 30:7; Isa 14:1,2; Joel 3:1-8; Matt 25:31-46 • National prosperity • Deut 30:9; Amos 9:11-15 4 May 4, 2008 Bob Eckel

  4. 33 Riches of Divine Grace Circumcised in Christ • Col 2:8-14 “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” • What do we call this declaration of God? GRACE, GRACE, GRACE 3 May 4, 2008 Bob Eckel

  5. 33 Riches of Divine Grace Circumcised in Christ GRACE here is entirely Christ with • Our sin nature judged • Our flesh judged • Deliverance from the dominion of the flesh has been secured • Rom 15:8 “Now I say that Jesus Christ has become a servant to the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers,” • Rom 6:6 “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with [him], that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.” • Phil 3:3 “For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.” 5 May 4, 2008 Bob Eckel
