  11. @SASIC_Aus • Why Space? • Space is Big Business. • The space sector is (increasingly) an integral part of life and business: • Telecommunications • TV, Phone, Internet • Defence and Security, Maritime • Positioning, Navigation and Timing (GPS) • Space Enabled Services • i.e. Precision Agriculture, Industrial IoT • Environmental monitoring and crisis management ….…..overlay with Artificial Intelligence

  12. @SASIC_Aus • Why Now? • Technological advantages are reducing market entry barriers: • Miniaturisation of technology has led to the increased affordability of space: a new revolution! • Move from GEO to LEO

  13. @SASIC_Aus • Why Now? • The Australian Space Agency: • Announced in Adelaide at the International Astronautical Congress: September 2017 • Commenced operations 1 July 2018

  14. @SASIC_Aus Why Now? • The Australian Space Agency: • National strategy, policy and coordination: Guide the growth and transformation of the Australian civil space sector • National capability and the space industry: Build world-leading domestic capability for today and tomorrow across the broader economy • International engagement: One door one voice in support of Australian space industry and to act as a trusted and responsible partner • Regulation, legislation and supporting our international obligations: Innovative regulations that balance public safety, protect national security and meet our international obligations • Inspiring Australia and the future workforce: Capture hearts and minds and provide a vision that inspires future generations

  15. @SASIC_Aus Why Now? • The Australian Space Agency: • Aims to triple the space sectors contribution to GDP to over AUD $12 billion per annum and create up to an additional 20,000 jobs by 2030 • Stimulate at least AUD $1 billion pipeline in inward capital investment in Australia’s space industry between 2019 and 2025, including R&D investment in infrastructure investment • Achieve year-on-year growth of the Australian space industry that exceeds 8.5 per cent per annum • Create a regulatory framework that ensures effective, efficient and safe space activities; and • Increase awareness of space activities and the impact on the Australian economy, cumulatively reaching 10 million Australians per year.
