  2. Background (recap) • BS-CSE program being evaluated by ABET's EAC and CAC • Team members: • Doug Williams (GA Tech), EAC PEV • Bill Shoaff (Florida Inst. of Tech.), CAC PEV • Bill Dixon (Ernst & Young), CAC Team Chair

  3. Team Schedule • Sunday: • (Williams) ECE lab tour • Talk to Neelam • Examine assessment materials • Examine course materials • (Dixon) Talk to dean, assoc. dean (Tomasko) • Team meeting

Team Schedule (contd) • Monday: • Presentation by dean (about things like Outcomes Comm; Core Comm.; CCAA) • Meet with Xiaodong, Bruce • Meet with individual faculty (confirm schedule) • Lunch (students, alum, industry person) • Meet with Peg Steele; others (Registrar, ECS etc.) • Meet with math dept. faculty (Gerlach, Carlson) • Meet with students • May be: prelim. debrief of Xiaodong, Bruce, Neelam • Team meeting

  5. Team Schedule (contd) • Tuesday: • May be more meetings • Debrief Xiaodong, Bruce, Neelam • Debrief dean • Working lunch (to prepare "exit statements") • Exit Interview with provost (sort of formal)

ABET's Instructions/Guidelines to PEVs (contd.) • Examine course materials: • Confirm course is up-to-date and appropriate for PEOs. • Course pre-reqs are adequate/important • Learning activities are appropriate for course outcomes • Graded work assesses learning outcomes appropriately • So: • Please go through the materials for all your courses at http://www.cse.ohio-state.edu/~neelam/abet/2011/COURSES/ • If you have any questions, please talk to the appropriate instructor and make sure you can explain any issues

ABET's Instructions/Guidelines to PEVs (contd.) • Interview faculty members: • What is his/her philosophy of teaching? • Activities to stay current in field? • Understanding of assessment process? • Participation in assessment process? • Participation in preparing self-study? • Views of strengths/weaknesses of program & its future? • Views of quality/maintenance of facilities? • Views of institutional support for program? • Commitment to the institution/program?

General (Important) Requests • Do NOT get into discussion/debate about ABET • Do NOT criticize students or other faculty • Do NOT gripe about your teaching loads etc.(ABET can't do anything about it!) • Do NOT gripe about the football team(ABET definitely can't do anything about it!) • Do go through the assessment/cont. impr. page • Do go through pages for the courses you are involved with (teach, coordinate, have interest in)
