  2. Ways to remember and understand new words: You can put new words into groups to remember and understand them together. For example, some words have similar meaning, like cure and heal, both meaning “to make something better”. Other belong to the same category, like AIDS and cancer, which are both diseases. Try to think more ways that you can group new words.

  3. Group the following words and phrases: immune, defenseless, infection, cure, contract, virus, suffer, discourage, specialist, lonely, eventually, break down, die of, cheer up, deal with, as if, a lack of Group 1: immune, defenseless, infection, cure, contract, virus, suffer discourage, specialist, lonely, eventually, break down, die of, cheer of, deal with, as if, a lack of Group 2:

  4. Now look at these words: AIDS immune defenseless infected cure contract virus suffer Such as: transmission, prevention, illness, treatment, defensive, diagnose, sick, spread, recover, curable, hospital…

  5. words and expressions: 1.Via prep. 凭借;通过;经过;经由 He flew to Washington via New York. I’ve read this French play via an English translation. 2.treatment n.治疗;疗法;对待;处理 He developed a new treatment for liver cancer. I don’t want special treatment.

A lack of food caused her to grow weak. vt.缺乏;短少;没有 lack money/courage/ability/experience We lacked the strength to walk any further. lacking adj. 欠缺的,不够的 be lacking in “缺乏(品质,特点等)” He seemed to be lacking in courage.

(be) free from 无…的;免于…;免除…;摆脱… A day free from wind 无风的日子 The child is free from care. 这孩子无忧无虑 He wished to live a life entirely free from troubles.
