Introduction to Typography and Design Fundamentals
This course covers the foundational concepts of typography, illustration, and page layout using professional software. Students will learn essential tools and techniques for creating impactful designs and develop a critical eye for quality work through constructive peer critiques. The class combines lectures, demonstrations, and studio time for hands-on experience with assignments. All course materials, including schedules and resources, will be available online.

COURSE DESCRIPTION Beginning concepts in typography, illustration, and page layout taught with current professional software and computers. COURSE GOALS • Develop an understanding of the fundamental tools and techniques used in producing designs • Understand and implement historically established basic principles for making designs. • Develop a critical awareness of what constitutes quality work by participating in constructive peer critiques.
CLASS STRUCTURE – LEC/LAB MODEL M, T, W, TH, F 9:00am – 10:00 am Lectures, demos, discussion. 10:00am – 1:00am Studio time to work on labs and assignments.
LABS • They are graded as either ✓, or 0 if not lab is turned in. • You’ll have time dedicated in class to work on them, but you will probably need to schedule time outside of class to complete them. • They are due each day by 5:00pm
