  1. 4 Budget-Friendly Student Accommodation near Edinburgh Napier University Founded in 1964 as Napier Technical College after the name of John Napier, who was born in 1550 in the medieval tower house of Merchiston Castle. He was a 16th-century Scottish mathematician and philosopher. The college was inaugurated as a University in the year 1992 by Lord Douglas-Hamilton but got its name as Edinburgh Napier University, not before 2009. It is a public university in Scotland with its three main campuses situated in Edinburgh at Merchiston, Craiglockhart and Sighthill. It has over 30,000 students, including those on-campuses in the country and others studying on transnational programmes abroad and online. The university has on-campus student accommodation but it cannot accommodate such a huge number of students therefore many of those students live in private student accommodation near Edinburgh Napier University.
