  2. AdvairDiskus is used to control COPD symptoms and prevent shortness of breath and wheezing associated with asthma. There are two active ingredients in Advair: fluticasone propionate and salmeterolxinafoate. Both COPD and asthma are marked by inflammation and narrowing of the airways. In general it is 6-step process to take an AdvairDiskus dose: • Open the Diskus and push the grip away from you til you a click noise is made. • Place the mouthpiece towards you and slide the lever until another click noise is heard. This essentially means the Diskus is ready to be used when the click is heard. • Exhale out away from the Diskus to open the lungs. • Inhale the medication with your lips closed around the mouthpiece and taking a deep breath in. Remove the Diskus from your mouth and hold your breath comfortably for about 10 seconds. • Close the Diskus by pushing the thumb grip back until a click is heard. The dose counter should reflect a dose being taken. • The last step is important - after each dose taken rinse your mouth with water and do not swallow the water.
