  1. 2014 World Environment Day Forum FIND, FIX, SAVEJOINING FORCES FOR A SUSTAINABLE LONDON Labatt Breweries of Canada, Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium, The London Region Manufacturing Council WELCOME YOU

  2. World Environment DayJune 5, 2014 • Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 and run by the United Nations Environment Programme • Celebrated every year on June 5th since 1973 • Aims to raise global awareness of the need to take positive environmental action

  3. Reasons for our global sponsorship of World Environment Day • Our dream of being the Best Beer Company in a Better World is focused on making a positive impact our communities, responsible drinking and the environment • Labatt is focused on encouraging sustainability in four key areas: water, energy, recycling, and packaging • Our commitment to the environment keenly aligns with the UN’s goals for WED We share a planet that’s showing visible signs of stress as demand for natural resources increasingly pushes the limits. It’s critical that we work together to protect it.

  4. Celebrating World Environment Day at Labatt 2014 marks our 6th annual celebration • UNEP’s goal is for WED activities to reach as many people as possible. • As Canada’s WED sponsor, Labatt seeks to maximize awareness in Canada • Leadership forums in partnership with other businesses and institutions; government; First Nations; community members, media • Showcases of environmental best practices of participating organizations • Community clean-ups of public lands and WED celebrations • Upbeat approaches to encourage conservation practices at work and at home Last year’s WED Environmental Forums were attended by hundreds and attracted media attention across the country

  5. Find, Fix, Save Joining forces for a sustainable london The Leaky Bucket ChallengeApril 14 – May 23, 2014 • EMC member companies to compete to fix the most number of environmental “leaks” in their manufacturing operations • Focus on natural resource-based utilities: water, power, and fuel, with the emphasis on water • Right-sized for companies depending on size Award Presentation on WED: Engraved, bronze bucket to top 5 companies

  6. Find, Fix, Save Joining forces for a sustainable london Ideas Showcase on June 5: Best Practices from Leaky Bucket Challenge participants • Event, hosted by Labatt to include: • Introductory remarks (EMC, Labatt, City London) • Remarks by London Hydro and Union Gas (why every fix counts) • Showcase (5 best practices) • Announce Top 5 scoring companies • Wraps-up with Taste of Labatt with all participating companies • EMC members to self nominate for presentation of best practice • Presentation to include: • Management insights on creating an innovative, environmentally-focused culture • Employee sharing of best practices and specific fixes

  7. The Leaky Bucket Challenge: how it works • Judging is based on two equal criteria: 1. “Fix” rate 2. “Participation” rate • Each fix must impact utility usage (fuel, water, gas, air, electricity). No fix is too small to qualify. • Attach standard work order tag to each issue – one half names it; the other is detached with a “solution.” • Each “fixed leak” is worth one ticket, or two tickets for water fixes • A replicated fix qualifies for only one ticket (e.g. an improved seal on exterior doors repeated on 20 exterior doors is one fix, not 20) • To qualify, the fix must be implemented. Any measurable improvement counts!

  8. The Leaky Bucket Challenge Determining your company’s “Fix” and “Participation” Rates • “Fix” Rate: the total number of fixes divided by the total number of “leaks” identified • “Participation” Rate: the number of people participating divided by the number of company employees in London/London area • There’s no limit on the number of tickets per employee or per team • Winners will be selected based on the highest Fix and Participation Rates

  9. Winning the Leaky Bucket Challenge • All leaks and fixes to be recorded on Excel tracker included in Challenge kit; tracker to be submitted to EMC by May 20 (EOD) • EMC will tally the tickets and the top five companies will be announced on WED forum on June 5 • Each winner will be awarded a bronzed leaky bucket, and asked to share 2 minutes of their insights on the Challenge when accepting their award Together, we’re securing our environment for tomorrow. This is a competition where everybody wins.

  10. More information on the Leaky Bucket Challenge Kit includes: • Power Point presentation on the Leaky Bucket Challenge • Challenge Tracker (in Excel format) • Overview of what Showcase presentations should include (5 total) plus template

  11. June 5, 2014 a celebration of positive and progressive environmental action What we save is what we give. Play a role in protecting our resources for future generations, and a bronzed bucket could be yours!
