  6. Benefits of green space Ecological benefits • Green spaces provide habitat for a variety of birds, fish, animals, insects, and other organisms, while also providing corridors and greenways to link habitats. • They prevent soil erosion and absorb rainwater, thereby improving drainage. • Trees have been shown to absorb pollutants. • Green spaces can also reduce noise pollution, by dense screens of trees and shrubs. • Finally, green spaces and their inhabitants are a good indicator of overall ecological health of the ecosystem.

  7. Benefits of green space social benefits • Provides recreational use: a place to play, meditate, gather, or rest. • Green spaces give a sense of social place, allow one to gain social recognition, enhance feelings of family kinship and solidarity, allow one to teach and lead others, provide opportunity to reflect on personal and social values, promote spiritual growth, and in general allow users to feel free, independent, and more in control than is possible in a more structured home and work environment. • Green spaces provide a refreshing contrast to the harsh shape, color, and texture of buildings, and stimulate the senses with their simple color, sound, smell, and motions. • Green spaces foster a connection between community residents and the natural environment that surrounds them, thus allowing for a more livable city. • Crime prevention ,Community gardens increase eyes on the street.

The PL House is a permanent residence for a young couple still without children, but willing to have two or three in a near future. • The clients’ aim was to have a really unique contemporary house, able to provide them comfort for day life and having their many friends home at free times. It should also be positioned up high on the hill, in a way the beautiful view could be admired above the dense surrounding vegetation. www.dezeen.com

  10. Case study Selgas Cano Architecture Office • Architects: Iwan Baan • Location: Madrid, Spain www.archdaily.com

  11. In order to achieve a perfect working environment, the developers decided that the roof had to be as transparent as possible, offering great views of the surrounding environment. At the same time, they had to shelter the desk area from direct sunlight. This was achieved by making the northern side of the office completely transparent, covering it up with a Plexiglas sheet. The desks were placed on the southern side, in a partially enclosed area, padded with naturally colored polyester and a double sheet of fiberglass www.archdaily.com

  13. This is an allotment on a gentle slope covered by evergreen oak, elm, ash, acacia, prunus and plane trees, all seeded spontaneously by birds from the surrounding plots. All of these trees and their canopy perimeters were measured and drawn on to plan. Le Corbusier said he wanted the empty La Tourette courtyard to be populated naturally with vegetation, by birds and the wind. Le Corbusier left a void in his architecture to be populated by nature. We think this project has arisen in opposition to that idea. www10.aeccafe.com

The only thing that separates the apartment and the garden is a glass façade with sliding doors to provide light and fresh air.
