  2. Active Reader-page 18- 1- Describe- What does the sunrise and sunset look like? Describe what you typically see. • At sunrise, the sun is low in the east horizon in the morning. • At sunset, the sun is low in the west horizon in the night.

  3. Active Reader –page 19-1. Recall- What motion causes day and night on Earth? • Rotation around Earth’s axis.

  4. Active Reader-page 20-1- Identify –What are two effects of the Earth’s revolution? 2- Recall- Earth both revolves and rotates. What does it rotate around? What is another word for Rotate? 1- Year & Seasons should be circled. 2- Another word for rotate would be SPIN.

  5. Active Reader- page 21-1- Identify- “hemisphere” means half of a ball. Which divides the Northern Hemisphere from the southern hemisphere on Earth?2- Decide- Are the northern and Southern Hemisphere every in the same season, If so, When? 1- A- The Equator 2- No, never.

  6. Focus Question- Page 21- 1. What kind of movement creates a Day? • The rotation of the Earth on its axis.

  7. Focus Question- Page 21- 2. What kind of movement creates a year? • The revolution of Earth in orbit around the sun.

  8. Focus Question- Page 21- 3. What causes the seasons? • The tilt of Earth on its axis as it revolves around the sun.

  9. Active Reader- Page 22-1- apply –Why don’t we see a full moon all the time even though the sun always lights half of the moon’s surface? • Because the part that is lit is not always facing us.

  10. Active Reader-Page 23- 1. Infer-”Gibbous” means “humpbacked”. Why is this term appropriate for a moon phase? • Because the moon looks humpbacked at that phase.

  16. Focus Question- page 26- 2. Why are the tides constantly moving in and out? • Because Earth is always rotating and the moon is always moving around it.

  18. Stop & Think – page 27-2. the rotation of Earth on its axis causes which event? A- one day

  19. Stop & Think – page 27-3. Identify one thing the moon and Earth have in common. Then identify one thing that is different between them In common: rotate, revolve, create an eclipse, have days, cause tides. Difference- Earth is bigger, revolves just around the sun, has more mass. Difference- The moon is smaller, less mass, revolves around both the sun and Earth.
