Atlantic Data CRB Review Phase 1 Recommendations bySunita Mason on 11 Feb 2011 • 1:Eligibility for CRB Checks to be scaled back • 2: CRB Checks to be portable between jobs and activities • 3: CRB should introduce an online system to allow employers to check if updated information is held on an applicant • 4: A new CRB procedure should be developed so that the criminal records certificate is only issued directly to the individual applicant • 5: Government should introduce a filter to remove old and minor conviction information from criminal records checks

Atlantic Data CRB Review Phase 1 recommendations (contd.) • 6: The Introduction of a package of measures to improve the disclosure of police information to employers • 7: CRB develop an open and transparent representations processandthat the disclosure of police information is overseen by an independent expert • . • 8: Where employees knowingly make unlawful criminal records check applications the penalties and sanctions are rigorously enforced

Atlantic Data CRB Review Phase 1 recommendations (contd.) • 9: Basic level checks to be introduced in England and Wales • 10: Comprehensive and easily understood guidance to be developed to fully explain the criminal records and employment checking regime • Summary CRB Review Phase 1 is atGreen Paper proposal stage. Phase 2 Final Proposal Revisions no date agreed yet. Once approved any changes must be approved by Parliament. This may take up to 2 Years. For now CRB say carry on “Business as Normal”

CRB News issued 21 March 2011 Steve Long, CRB Chief Executive says: "These changes will not be immediate and we will be working with the ISA and the Home Office to understand the impact of the changes and develop plans to implement them at the earliest opportunity.   A number of the changes will require new primary legislation and will take time to complete but we will continue to keep you informed through the usual channels when we know more. "In the meantime, it is business as usual for the CRB and you should continue to submit applications for CRB checks as normal."
