The Intolerable Acts • Closed the Port of Boston until colonists paid for the destroyed tea. • Banned committees of correspondence • Allowed for Britain to house troops whenever needed. • Allowed British officials accused of crimes in the Colonies stand trial in Britain.
The First Continental Congress Meets • Delegates from all the colonies (except Georgia) met to vote and ban all trade with Britain until the intolerable acts were repealed. • Key step in American independence- although the colonies were not ready to break from Britain they were ready to fight for colonial rights.
Between war and peace • Colonies began training militias • Many hoped the trade ban would force British to repeal- it had worked before • The midnight ride of Paul Revere- the war is about to begin
