  2. What Is A Consumer ? • Consumers (explained) Animals that depend on producers for food. Some feed directly on plants , while others eat animals that depend on plants for food.

  4. The Trophic Pyramid • In every ecosystem energy is trapped and stored by plants.

  5. The Trophic Pyramid • Plants are the primary producers. • Some energy is transferred to the animals that eat plants

  6. Herbivores • Herbivores:are animals that derive all their energy from plants. • On the trophic pyramid they are called Primary Consumers.

  7. Carnivores • Carnivores(defined) Are animals that eat other animals. • On the trophic pyramid they are called Secondary Consumers

  8. Secondary Consumers • Secondary Consumers are animals that eat Primary Consumers. • Example snakes.

  9. Trophic Pyramid • Secondary Consumers are eaten by Tertiary or Third Stage Consumers. • In our trophic pyramid the owl would be considered the Tertiary Consumer.

  10. Trophic Pyramid • Each stage or level is referred to as trophic levels
