What is the Title I/LAP program? • Title I – Reading Assistance – M, W, F • Pull-out or in-class model • Research shows student pull-out model is most effective for extra learning assistance • LAP – Math Learning Assistance Program – T, Th • Pull-out or in-class model Options are based on availability of instructor during core learning time and federal funding for instruction time.

  4. What is the Title I/LAP program? Federally mandated program, part of No Child Left Behind Ensures that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education Targeted assistance based on highest academic need Provides opportunities for partnership between school & home to best serve students’ learning

  5. What does Title I look like at Wilbur? • Entrance/exit standards, pg. • MSP, STAR, DIBELS, teacher referrals • Pull-out model during non-core subject time • M/W/F – Reading 25 minutes • T/Th – Math 25 minutes • Small group, targeted instruction • Highly engaging, fun activities • Frequent assessment and progress monitoring

What does Title I look like at Wilbur? • Sequential, logical learning with emphasis on filling in the learning gaps and providing extra practice • Explicit phonics practice • LOTS AND LOTS of reading aloud • Grade-level sight words • Reading comprehension strategies • Discussions, questions, teachable moments • LOTS of number sense games and activities • Math facts & relationships between similar facts • Logical thinking and number relationships

Extended Learning Time • Small group instruction • During the school day • Home study ideas • Newsletter and materials from Title I teacher • Parent meetings and conferences • Schedule sessions to get ideas for how to help students at home • After school tutoring and study help • Open door policy

Parent Involvement • Student/Teacher/Parent Compact • PAC Meetings • Parent education nights throughout year • Family fun nights – math & reading • Home reading activities • Home math activities • School/home newsletter • Wilbur Title I Website – your thoughts? • Learning resources, games, skills, etc.
