  2. Objective • Provide an overview of the progress towards the Medical Education and Training Campus (METC) Medical Laboratory Technician Program

METC MLT Program • METC MLT Option Approved as of Feb 2010: • Army/Navy consolidation - 1040 didactic hours; AF co-locate at FSH • First METC MLT Class Start Date: November 2010 • METC Student Throughput = 84/class X 9 annually • Army 473 • Navy 278 • Total: 751 • Phase II Clinicals at NMCs San Diego & Portsmouth

METC MLT Program • Common Goals: • Must maintain National Accrediting Agency For Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) Program Certification • Maintain Affiliation with George Washington University as Certificate/ Degree Awarding University • Graduate students with all AS degree requirements completed • Standardize the process for all Students to Challenge the National ASCP Certification Exam • Require METC MLT Instructors to have at least an AS Degree and MLT/CLT certification

Facility Progress • Medical Instructional Facility (MIF) #3 • Lab Specific: • 20 Classrooms • 17 Labs (4 labs each for Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology and Microbiology, 1 Phlebotomy lab) • 8 Prep Rooms • Construction in progress is on schedule for a July 2010 delivery to METC and a Nov 2010 convening date.

  7. Curriculum Progress • Combined Navy/Army curriculum is development is contracted with Pario development team for college level blended learning. • Each Course Package consists of: • Lesson Plan • Student Guide • Instructor Guide • Instructor Presentation • Course Packages reviewed by NSHS instructor staff through 3-4 drafts.

  8. Manning Plan • METC will have 21 Navy MLT instructors for Phase I. • 2 MTs (CDR Crowell and LTJG Freeman) • 4 CPOs • 8 HM1 • 7 HM2 • METC billets are now populating CMS for instructors. • Phase II manning has not been solidified at this time.

  9. Future Challenges • Maintenance of 8506 Manning Levels • Phase II Clinical Rotation Planning • AS Degree Continuity • ASCP opportunity continuity • Training instructors for first class convening
