  3. Relocation or Merger of POs • Monitor - likelihood of any • Industry/Business • Project like dams etc • Power project • Existence or opening of institution like Schools, Banks etc • Expansion of township • Small scale industry

Why relocation? • Need for opening post offices in urban agglomerations/extension areas/new settlements. • Post Offices which are either loss making, or even running on profit, can be closed down in one area and relocated. • For relocation of a post office, the procedure for opening of post office has to be followed

Need for Relocation of Post Office • The existence of a Sub office or a Branch Office is no longer justified on distance/Financial norms. • Review of C class PO in metropolitan cities on the quality and range of services being provided to the public at present. • If any BO is to be upgraded in to SO, the same may also be upgraded in to DSO through the process of relocation. (Directorate Letter No. 40-4/2003-04/Plg dated 16.05.2005)

  6. Factors to be kept in mind for Relocation of Post Office • In case, the need to relocate Post Offices appears not within the same city, it may be done within the same circle. • These relocated post offices in new areas are to be opened purely by redeployment of posts. • The staff rendered surplus redeployed to other needy post offices. • The activity of relocating post offices will be outside the plan targets fixed for opening of post offices in urban areas and hence no limits have been fixed.

  7. Consolidation of Post offices • Relocation helps in consolidation of Post offices • Efforts may be taken to open larger post offices in the outlying areas where computerized facilities can be provided for the customers. • Number of post offices to be opened need not be equal to the number closed. • Can think of as an opportunity to close down numerous smaller post offices and open one big post office in a needy area.

  8. Consolidation of Delivery • Relocation will help to consolidate delivery work • The delivery system of inner city areas be rationalized to divert postmen staff to these newly relocated post offices. • Take care of idle mileage of delivery staff and optimal utilization of surplus delivery staff .

  9. Powers to Relocate Post Office • The powers to relocate Post Offices from one area to other areas vested with the Chief PMG and Regional PMG. • The powers to redeploy Group ‘C’ and MTS posts rests with the Head of the Circles. • The size of relocated post offices rests with the CPMsG /Regional PMsG. • Approval of IFA taken in all cases.
