  1. CONTROL BIOLOGICAL INSECTS USING METARHIZIUM ANISOPLIAE Metarhizium Anisopliae is a fungus that grows naturally in soil and causes various insects. Metarhizium anisopliae is used as a biological insecticide to combat a variety of pests and it is being studied for its use in the control of mosquitoes that spread malaria. When the spore of this fungus comes in contact with the cuticle of the target insect pests, it germinates and grows directly through the spiracle cuticle in to the inner body of the host. Metarhizium anisopliae demonstrates considerable metabolic and ecological versatility and has been observed colonizing the rhizosphere and adhering to the surfaces of plant roots, and it may significantly influence this ecological niche by repelling and killing soil insects. Metarhizium anisopliae is considered to be safe with minimal risks to vertebrates, humans and the environment. Metarhizium anisopliae generally enters insects through spiracles and pores in the sense organs. The fungus produces a lateral extension of the hyphae once inside the insect, which eventually proliferates and consumes the insect's internal contents.
