  2. FRACTION By:Tasneem Naz Tariq DA SKBZ School

  3. Contents: • Long term & short term goal. • Instructional strategies. • Definition of fraction. • Half and Quarter. • Denominator and Numerator. • Like Fractions. • Addition of like fractions. • Subtraction of like fractions. • Quiz & work sheet. • References.

  4. Long-term goal • Adopt 21st century teaching approaches to enhance students appreciation of mathematics& to help students to develop the skills needed for success in this century

  5. Short term goals The aim is to provide students with review of simple fraction and to introduce fraction in detail with following objectives. • Analyzing Students will be able to understand fraction, denominator, numerator and like fraction. • Evaluating Teacher will asset the students by giving them worksheet and quiz. • Creating Students will be able generate fractions in daily life.

  6. Instructional strategies & tasks • I will ask question that require students to explain how they came to an answer • I will ask students to gather in randomly assigned groups or pairs to discuss how to best solve mathematical problems • I will provide more opportunities for students to answer questions that require higher-order thinking • I will provide students with time for group discussion

  7. Timeline

  8. A FRACTION is a number that represents a part of a whole. Fractions are useful whenever you need to split things up. 1 Whole Cake Each piece is the fraction of 1 whole cake.

  9. Denominator & Numerator are two very important words we use when working with fractions. • Numerator is the top number which tells us how many of those equal parts we are interested in. • Denominator is the bottom number which tells us into how many equal parts our shape has been divided.

  10. Half and Quarter • When a shape is divided into two equal parts, each part is called a half, or ½. • When a shape is divided into four equal parts, each part is called a quarter, or ¼.

  11. Example: 3/4 Denominator = 4 Numerator = 3 6/7 Numerator = 6 Denominator = 7

  12. Like Fractions : • Fractions with the same denominator are called like fractions. For example: 4/7 and 1/7 5/8 and 3/8

  13. In like fractions, the greater the numerator the greater the fractional number For example: • 5/8 3/8 • 1/6 3/6 > <

  14. Adding like fractions: • When we add like fractions, add only the numerators. The denominators stay the same! 1/4 +2/4 =3/4

  15. Subtracting like fractions: • When we subtract like fractions, subtract only the numerators. The denominators stay the same! 5/6 - 2/6 = 3/6

  16. Quiz

  17. 1. The number which is written above in fraction is called ________. • 2. The number which is written below in fraction is called ________. • 3. Fractions with the same denominator are called like fraction. • 4.When shapes are divided into two equal parts, each part is called a _________. • (a) Quarter (b) Whole (c) Half • 5. If shapes are divided into four equal parts , each of those part is a _________. • (a)Half (b) Quarter (c) Whole • 6. The total number of parts in a fraction are shown by numerator. • TrueFalse • 7.In like fractions, the greater the numerator ,the ________ the fractional number. • (a) smaller (b) greater (c) equal True False
