Trust Overview • Mersey Care NHS Trust provides specialist adult mental health and learning disability and addiction services for the people of Liverpool, Sefton and Kirkby • We provide low and medium secure services for Merseyside and Cheshire and are one of only three trusts nationally to provide high secure services • In 2011/12 we provided care, treatment and support to 31,488 service users. The population and communities served by the Trust are diverse and include some of the most deprived areas in the country • We employ over 4,000 staff and operate from 33 sites which are either owned by the Trust or leased.

The Trust is currently applying for NHS foundation trust status The Trust has completed a number of external independent assessments which has provided us with an opportunity to strengthen our governance and management arrangements We have a membership and all staff are automatically made a member of the Trust When we submit our application to Monitor we will establish a Council of Governors

Authorisation will assist the organisations continuing development and ensure the Trust is formally recognised as being a well-managed and high performing organisation This will further enhance the Trusts reputation and assist plans for growth and expansion Becoming an NHS foundation trust  will secure the future of Mersey Care NHS Trust as an independent organisation  championing the needs and interests of the people we serve

  5. Trust Vision To be recognised as the leading organisation in the provision of mental health care, addiction services and learning disability care with an emphasis on quality and safeguarding. Health recovery and wellbeing are at the heart of the organisation.

Trust Strategic Aims Aim 1 Quality To continuously improve the quality and productivity of our services Aim 2 Better Services To ensure our services meet people’s needs effectively, help people recover and are financially viable in the future Aim 3 Better Partnerships To develop partnerships that deliver improvements and quality, or enhance recovery and wellbeing for people with mental health needs Aim 4 Our Organisation To become a highly effective organisation with empowered service users, fully engaged staff and good governance.

  7. Management Arrangements Trust Board Trust Board takes responsibility for the quality of care delivered across all of our services Trust Services Our Trust services are managed and delivered through two Divisions Secure Services & Local Services. Clinical Business Units (CBUs) also sit within the two divisions which are led by a clinical director and service director Our CBUs have been organised on the basis of service user groups and the organisation has benefitted from greater autonomy and clinical leadership.
